Not sure what the internal s/board's supposed to achieve, i just build them like i'm asked, this guy has some unusual requests, first it was a kasha now this one, next one is going to have a raised fretboard and the one after that is a Selmer with a fanned fretboard, and also a fiddle kit from stewmac to put together for him, at least he's keeping me busy, repeat buisness gotta be good. I really like the cats paw, I ask about the internal soundboard because when I was younger much younger I vaguely remember something similar but used in a percussion instrument, I think it was to do with volume, I could be totally wrong of course, if only the memory worked!

The internal soundboard was originated by Ramirez with his "de Camara" model

I think there's a contagious disease going around on this forum:

From last week. And I botched the replacement last night! :toi

Just for grins I took the junk top to the bandsaw.

I had looked over the procedure on John Greven's site, but decided to go the slash and burn route, since I have more matching binding and the finish wasn't on yet.

I try to look at these disasters as badges of honor, but this time it isn't helping.

Every cock up is a valuable lesson Pat and how we fix them up is an even more valuable lesson. Not only for how we problem solve and come up with a fix but while implementing that fix, we vow never to make the original balls up again!

Damn the 'you can no longer edit this post' phrase!
Going back to the internal Baffle (can't see it as a soundboard somehow), I must try and read up some more on the thinking, in Martin's link it claims it's supposed to reduce wolf notes but to my initial "off the top of my head" thinking it would add to the muddyness because you'd have double reflections going off and at differing times, one slightly ahead of the other. Hmmmmm :?

In his book Things About the Guitar, José Ramírez III dedicated five pages to his "guitarra de cámara", saying in the first and also in the last paragraph that he could not scientifically prove his affirmations which he defended as a mere opinion, which (he said) Andrés Segovia shared with him.
However, it seems interesting to me that if this was such a spectacular improvement, the Ramírez company did not switch completely to this system but rather than that almost abandoned it...

Nick i only call it an internal s/board for want of a better name, and i'm not convinced it's going to be all that great, but that's what the customer wants. ( and they're always right, right? not sure about that either. ) Bad luck about that Pat, hope you have better luck next time. I think you're right Markus if it was all that good why hasn't it caught on. Wayne

It is also interesting that even the Ramírez company seems to be struggling for a proper name for this part. Here they call it "fan" (sic), which must be a typo, because in their Spanish website version they call it "aleta" which means "fin" and which also is the term José Ramírez III used (only once) in his book.
