How bad are they? At $14 you couldnt expect much...I bought the StewMac Digital calipers at about $45.00 and they are alright (Chinese made of course) and do the job.

Sometimes when you open or close it you will get a negative value because it can't keep up with the movement. I've had a few cases where i've measured a 40 mm thick bit of timber and had a value of like 28mm haha. Then you have to reset and zero the thing...It's like a random number generator. I would definitely not trust it for anything but rough measurements
