Look's great Rod.

Unless there is some overriding reason why you are going to P1500 then I'd suggest you go no more than P800. In fact I'd be going no more than P600. Especially if you are using Mirotone. Once cured, (overnight) it does require some "tooth" for adhesion, and P1500 just doesn't give enough.

For everyones reference, when you are going to add more coats for virtually all finishes, depending on the type of finish there will be both chemical and physical adhesion between the substrate and topcoat. All finishes require at least one of these to be successful. Both are better.

For every finish that I've used, the physical adhesion or "tooth" diminishes exponentially after P800. Essentially grits after P800 you are polishing the surface and decreasing adhesion. You also will not see any improvement to the finish.

No worried Rod. Unless you do it every day, there's just no way you'd be in the know.

Looking forward to seeing this one with strings.

Now that's a burst that doesn't hide but enhances. Nicely done mate.

If those pics are a true indication of the colour (on my pc that is) then you have really done that maple justice Rod.

Well thanks for the positive feedback, i'm very happy with the way this build is turning out, i must say i was very uncertain of myself when aplying the burst, anyway it's turned out ok so far, thanks to Nicko's sujestion, and how to apply the stain to highlight the figure in the timber.
Cheers all, Rod

Looking good Rod, that Chatayonce I mentioned in the white has really come though in the burst and once this baby's polished the grain feature is going to be something! Great job with the burst :)

Very tasteful burst! It highlights and frames, rather than hiding the wood.

A bit of a set back in the Rocket camp, i set the neck yesterday, and in the process managed to damage some of the burst in the heel and cantilever region, nothing major , just annoying so had to remask in that area to touch up.I'll use my recently aquired airbrush kit, shouldn't be too many dramas. I had test fitted the neck prior to laquering and thought it was ok, but on final fitting discovered the centering of the neck to tail pin was about 2mm out, so had to adjust the joint a tad, hence a bit of damaged paint work, Doh!!! Thanks for your kind comments, Cheers Rod.

I've posted pics of this before but i'm not sure if it was before the crash or on another topic.
So i'll just tack it on the end of the reconstruction.
Cheers,,, Rod

Top job Rod . Binding the f holes is one of the most demanding jobs going.
