Allen, it gets worse.
That foreman also doubles as the safety inspector, and he wasn't impressed with that purple dust extractor lying on the floor!

Wanna see shop pics? hmmm...OK.

So after putting up with techies and musicians who, hung around and produced nothing in my upstairs studio, I said enough is enough and I kicked them and their gear out. (Ever noticed how gear stinks of beer, cigarettes and road dust.) Maybe if they had produced just one track ..(all them videos I shot and posted myself). Besides they wern't paying rent or even offering to shoot me some bucks, just hung around drinking my beer and smoking.

Me then pulled the carpet and made a few work benches. Yup! Is now my new dojo. Break out shop still be in the cold cold basement, but assembly is in now gonna be upstairs where it is warm. With windows and light. Yay!

See old space full of computers and techie junk. Eight years in television, I don't need no more techie junk around me.

Image
See new space, all nice clean, new workbenches. Yay.

Image

.
Doing all the shelf brackets for hanging the instruments and the tool shelf racks.

Me wanted a really funky shop, just like the old guys that taught me a thing or two use to has.

So...

See new doggie...Him name is Buddysatvha, but me just call him Doggy...and yup, him me new bench dog

All the brackets, shelves and vices have been carved to match, carved everything...not a fine detailed carving job, but enough to set the mood for a pleasant shop to work in. At this stage its operational but just barely. Didn't realize how much of a shop me gotts to haul upstairs.

Is gonna look great once the winter plastic is down and I get proper storm windows built for next year. (Me been saying that for 17 years now)

Image

Image

then me built a wall hung cabinet,

Image

and a counter under it....

Image

that runs along the inside of the wall...

Image

with the doors and a rack to store long stock like banding strips, another counter and
a shelf unite for me all hand planes...

Image

So this is a year later and doggy n me we make sawdust
Actually doggy don't make sawdust...
but him real good at chewing any thing that hits the deck... is what dogs do.

Him looks like this now....

Image

and the shop looks like dis

Image

But wait...

here be the sketch for me new workbench...makin it out of 5 x 10 inch Larch.. 40year old ugly salvaged timbers. BIG solid sucker, gonna be no rackin or moving around on it. Ya!

Image

So there, das were me make sawdust.

tanx for lookin

Padma - very cool carving on the cabinets and draws - puts my rough-hewn mountain of Bunnings plywood to shame.
The overhead cabinet is my favourite!.

How long did it take you to do all that?

Cheers and thanks for posting - and thereby resurrecting a great thread.

Very swish indeed Padma. Much better to tern that space into a workshop than have free loading muso's inhabiting that great space.

Been a long time since I've seen the winter storm window dressing since moving to Australia. Reminds me why I left Canada....the winters just give me the shits.

My workshop. The wood shelves are getting out of control..need to do a stock take and find out exactly what's there.

"Winter storm window dressing", Is that a storm safety thing or low cost double glazing?

Nice relatively dust free zone Martin. Do you need a hand with the stock take?

Low cost double glazing Jim. The building code has stipulated double glazing for decades, but you can still build "in the bush" pretty much any way you like. Much like the NT.

You cant quite see the second rack of shelving at the back......its pretty much chockers with tops. The shelves at front are stocked with neck blanks and back and side sets.
