Martin Style 5 Case Suggestions?
Martin Style 5 Case Suggestions?
Howdy - just strung up a small acoustic based on Martin Style 5 plans from LMI. Western red cedar top, flamed big leaf maple back and sides, blackwood binding. Pretty happy with the sound and feel, although the neck is probably a bit heavy (might thin it down and refinish) and the frets could do with a levelling and polishing - really just strung it up to make sure it hung together and sounded ok.
I was looking for suggestions about a case that might suit - scale length is 21.3 inches, body length 16 inches, overall length 33 inches, lower bout 11.25 inches,

I've built 2 of these years ago and went with Ameritage cases. Heavy, and pretty well made. They were the only ones I could find that were a good fit.

Thanks Allan - did they make a custom case, or did one of their standard models provide a good fit?Allen wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 7:03 amI've built 2 of these years ago and went with Ameritage cases. Heavy, and pretty well made. They were the only ones I could find that were a good fit.

It would have been about 12 years ago now. It was an off the shelf model that they had to fit the Martin body shape. Though it was still custom built as they don't carry stock that I'm aware of. I did not need to send them a template or measurements when I said it was just a copy of the Style 5.

You could consider a SKB Baby Taylor...

Not the perfect dimensions for your build, but may work all the same. I've used this case before on my own design of Terz and Octave Mandolins (guitar body Irish Bouzouki) previously.
They are available in Australia.
Cheers.

SKB 1SKB-300 Baby Taylor / Martin LX Guitar Hardshell Case from Manny's Music
Pretty snug fit, but certainly secure - better than I imagined I could get.
