What's on your bench?
Been busy, but good busy! These 3 are getting close. We've had 33 guitars come out of the school at Erina in about 18 months with the range from Tenor Ukes to Acoustic Basses and everything in between. Hard to find time for my own builds but this is why I got into this game in the first place.
These 3 are a J45 style Dready (x-brace), a falcate braced "Tassie" (an AGMS original) and a Torres (fan braced) classical.
What's on your bench at the moment?

Guitars on the go at present:
1. falcate braced classical - being french polished.
2. falcate braced parlour - being french polished.
3. falcate braced OM multiscale - about to start finishing.
4. falcate braced Gore style OM (as above but conventional fretting) - sides bent up and end blocks glued in.

I'm working on a "tiny jumbo" guilele right. Bunya top; silver wattle back and sides; blackwood neck. Binding TBD.

Sorry for the poorly lit photo!Aaron
Re: What's on your bench?
3 more tenors being readied for bindings. And tops and backs being joined for the next 5 commissions.

What's the back wood in the middle of those three? Very interesting colour and grain pattern!
Thanks,
Aaron
Re: What's on your bench?
It's Paduk. Pretty hard timber but does bend reasonably well. Huge pores though. It will fade and turn more brown if you expose it to UV, so if you want the bright rich red, best to keep it in it's case unless you're playing it.

Jenga blocks... Requested by my son for his wedding, so people have something to do while photos are taken

Rightio , strictly speaking it's not the goings on of my workbench but maybe of interest .
My workbench is occupied with a tidy little Huon and King Billy boat I'm building , getting ready to start teaching boat building again .
It's logging season in curly world , some banging good blackwood coming through . One fiddle tree in and two more yarded ready to truck . One of the fiddle trees is wild and really dark !!

This ones going out for you Kim .
The high bay lights aren't to flattering but it gives an idea . It's a steam bent skeleton that gets clad with a nylon canvas skin . When done it's semi transparent ( you can see the waterline when sitting in it ) and about 7 kilos .
I have to admit that's its a whole bunch of fun being back at the bench !

Pete that is some wild looking Blackwood.
I am finishing up a mahogany tenor ukulele. I need to glue the binding and purfling on and finish the neck.

No builds, but umm, chaos on the repair front

Re: What's on your bench?
Been a hellish month of very hot weather here in Cairns. Goes into the mid 40's in my shed almost every day by 11am. 38 in the coolest spot in the shade on my patio. Only way to get things done is before noon, and even then it's pretty tough going.
In the last couple of days I managed to get a batch of bridges and some of the fret boards I need for the next lot of instruments done. I'll customise the bridges with a complimentary veneer depending on the instrument it's destined for.

Re: What's on your bench?
Those bridges look perdy cool ,tis a shame about the weather it drains your enthusiasm too I bet.
John ,of way too many things to do.
Re: What's on your bench?
Having strung my falcate braced SS last week, (will post pics and analysis soon), and waiting for it to settle before final setup, I have had a great clear out of the workshop, so the answer is nothing. Not even dust.
The place hasn't looked so clean since I moved in and started working in it!
The big decision is what next... My real love is for the classical. Having had good results with the Fleta design, and the Gore falcate, I am drawn to try a classic Torres version since so many people are getting such great results with it. But maybe something completely different.
You might have guessed I don't have to sell these, but it could be that building some storage so the house is not littered with guitars may be the right next move.

If that photo is any indication of your workshop, I would suggest you have a lot to learn about chaos. No builds, but umm, chaos on the repair front
I am happy to give suggestions based on my own experience.

Re: What's on your bench?
Reckon you've got enough instruments there to start an orchestra....with a huge clarinet section.
