Friends,
I'm having great difficulty finding a fine saw setting tool in Australia. I'm pretty new to all of this and realise the potential of things going wrong, but, as with my other hand-tools, I'd like to maintain and set-up my saws personally. I found a SOMAX 5-16 TPI tool and some other nice stuff here (http://www.fine-tools.com/euroscha.htm#ziel309600), but would prefer buying it in Australia. It's mainly for a PAX tenon saw, Stewmac's older fret slot saw, and a Japanese razor-cut saw (though the latter may not be suitable for setting with a 5-16 TPI setter?). Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Kim.

Hi Kim ,
There are a few on ebay
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw ... acat=13849
I'm pretty sure you can modify them for fine teeth, file or grind the pin and even the anvil if needed.
This type is what I would try with
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Saw-Set-/321 ... 4addc875ca

Plenty of saw setters and sharpeners in that section.

Hi Kim,
Paul Sellers has a good video on this here.
I used his instructions and it work a treat for a 15tpi saw I restored, worked a treat.

Re: Saw setter hand-tool
Thanks to you both! I had seen those on ebay but was hoping for a new one. Few places seem to sell them here. I decided to go with two old ones from ebay. They're perhaps more solid than the newer SOMAX versions, and unless something is missing you can't really go wrong I guess. I saw Peter Sellers' videos, which are great. The one you posted, Rob, made me decide to get two old ones so I can modify one or both if needed down the track. Looking forward to this part of the instrument building process! Now on to looking for some good saw files...
Cheers,
Kim.
