Hi Rob, Yes it is a low starting price....I recon if it goes for under $300 someone has got a super deal...

...Its funny....I have a really nice floor standing morticer that I used to use a lot when I was making furniture but now it only gets used for one thing and thats one 3/8 by 3/8 mortice for the bolt bar that I use to join the necks to my guitars a la the Gore/Gilet method but I wouldn't be without it as it is such a great method for joining the neck to the body...

...so hopefully some anzlf'er will get it for a good price

...that Lutherie catalog sure is a great piece of history!

This machine would be a good buy at sub $200. It looks like the lowering mechanism is a bit more sturdy than current equivalent machines from Carbatec etc. They have the pneumatic dampening system that is quite fragile and prone to failure.

RE the catalog, that was one of my first suppliers back in the day and I had that catalog, can't find it now though.
I did look for it and found a heap of old shit I should have thrown away. I also found my first guitar construction book I bought in the early sixties. I brought it out to Australia with me and started the first guitar using it as a guide in the early seventies. Here's a photo.
I used to get off my bus two stops sooner on my way to work, so I could look at the instruments and timber in the window of that shop.

Hi Trevor, yep mine is the hard copy but doesn't look it in the photo. Must have bought it in 1963 before coming to Aussie in '65.

I think that was 'the book' back in the 50's Trevor . If I remember correctly, when Jose Romanillos, living in London and homesick for Spain, decided that the remedy was to build himself a guitar, that was the book that guided him through his first build.
