What exactly will you be using the spindle sander for on your classicals? If you haven't already got a drum sander I'd be diverting finances towards same.

The Jet machines are ok. Ive got a Jet table saw, drum sander and dustie and they work fine. After sales service was an issue when I bought the last lot of machinery but things may have improved since then as Carbatec werent the main agents for Jet at that stage.

Hello Martin,

Thanks for your message. I have a drum sander but am wanting to sand the edges of my soundboards... I currently use my made up stick sanders and that is fine but was feeling "rich" (a bit silly) and though I might get a spindle sander as a gift to myself.... it sounds like the usefulness is just not there and I might be better off spending it on something else... it also sounds like you are using hand tool sanders.... you may have saved me some money... let me know further..

All the best

Robert

I've just bought a Swiss Tec Spindle Sander, great bit of kit.
I've squared up all my side moulds and made a few more to boot. Should have had one ages ago.
As for brands I think most of them come out of the same factory - Jet, Swiss Tec,
I haven't tried it on sound board edges yet, I have a couple of rolling pin sanders that work well for that.
Cheers
Graham

Spindle sander is an indispensable piece of kit in my shed. I've got the big industrial type floor model, but the bench top one would work a treat too. There are all sorts of things you will end up doing with them once it's in the shop.

I bought one of these benchtop models from Hare & Forbes and it works a treat for my needs. It is pretty cheap on special and so far has worked brilliantly.

Nothing wrong with the Scheppach range of tools Martin, good quality machine tools & that looks like a good buy....now if only they sold it at that price across the Tassie.

Nice to have a tool fit for purpose, you should just buy it, if you have the money - you will forget what it cost down the track anyway. Alternatively what about a nice table and a drum sander for the drill press?

Which one are you going to buy Robert? www.machineryhouse.com.au currently have 15% off woodworking machines, if you weren't already aware.
