Hi there
I was wondering if anyone was aware of a luthier in the greater Brisbane region who would be able to strip a guitar of it's Nitro finish and give it a hard glossy 2 pack finish instead.
I know some people might see this as a terrible thing to do to a guitar but honestly the Nitro was never finished particularly well and it chips far too easily, plus I prefer the high gloss finish. The guitar a home made and is of special significance to me as it was made by my father specially for me, so I don't approach this lightly.
Thanks in advance. Pic below if anyone is curious.

Nitro to 2 Pack

Hi Kalen,
Welcome to the forum. Some more pics would be nice. You would probably have better luck with a specialist polisher.
2 pack is extremely toxic, enclosed booth, hazard suit and and breathing apparatus. Scuff sanding is even worse.

Hmm ok. I had originally planned to take it to Ormsby guitars in Perth to do it because his work is outstanding, and it would be worth the extra cost just because I know it would come out so great but he recently announced that he won't be doing refinishing work anymore, wanting to just focus on new builds.
Also I'm no photographer and all the crappy iPhone pictures I take of the guitar always seem to distort it in some way, it's far more lovely in person. Made from Brazillian Mahogany, Jarrah and Rock Maple with the headstock vaneer being something we pulled of an antique piano that was at the end of its life, as well as an ebony fretboard. Mother of Pearl inlays and the John Petrucci set Dimarzio's in it, it sounds wonderful.

Perry does do good work here in perth.
If perry does not have the time to do it, send it to us.
We have a professional painter on staff and are in perth as well.

Aww, thanks for the kind words!

Unfortunately I have way too much work, and Im really expensive for this type of stuff now. Otherwise, it would be a cool project.

I have had Mick Gentry work on my guitars in the past. He is a great guy and I know he has a spray booth. I have never had finish done from him before though but I can imagine he would do a good job. On the gold coast though.
