In the Buff
In the Buff
Finally finished my buffing machine and will be able to complete my first build.
When I decided to make a guitar I didn't realise how may jigs and forms I had to construct on the way.

Re: In the Buff
Your right about the jigs Leah, seems to never end because once your set up you find yourself thinking of better ways and off you go again...The buffer looks great by the way and I can't see that gathering too much dust..
I do most of my buffing with a drillpress or small flock mushroom buffs on a cordless but one thing I've heard a lot of guys do with their static buffers is to back off the tension on the drive belt quite a bit. The idea being that the buffs will stall due to belt slip should you apply enough pressure to risk burn through. Apperently this also helps reduce the risk of having the buff grip and rip the almost finished guitar from your hands and smashing it to bits with your heart as its slam dunked into the floor
Still a good idea to have a nice big bit of foam laid down just in case I reckon.

You might want to pad that post. I'd hate for you to get a bloody nose if your noggin gets caught and tossed.
Re: In the Buff
As Kim said, I have the drive belt quite loose and the buff will stop turning if too much pressure is applied. Works really well.Kim wrote:...but one thing I've heard a lot of guys do with their static buffers is to back off the tension on the drive belt quite a bit. Thanks for the advice on loosening the v belt - that could save a few tears.

p.s. I'd make a guard for that belt too.
That's what all the girls say!
