I had a recent Gibson "Advanced Jumbo" in for some setup this week.
Not terribly impressive acoustically, the bridge was lifting (but who needs glue when you have Bolts)
I looked in the soundhole at the bracing, lovely tight grain on the SIDE of one of the X braces, the one with the inside face notched.
No cap to the X, not even a linen patch
Isn't this just a split waiting to happen?
I guess only a Gibson is "good enough"
Flatsawn Braces?
Re: Flatsawn Braces?
Matons are the same no patch over the X

I saw a Gibson in Allans/ Billy Hyde and Amongst some of the 900 dollar guitars it looked like rubbish. They used what appeared to be like a low 3A grade piece of spruce. For 4500 RRP you think they could spend 100 bucks on a top.

Stu, the one they used must have been "good enough"

This one had a 1" long bearclaw each side of the lower bout, just enough to look like a defect rather than a feature.
And heavy subursting too.
