Thanks for the thumbs up you lot, yeah arch tops do have an allure don't they!. The s6 by Duncan Seymore does in comparison to the Kent Armstrong sound warmer, maybe a more contemporary arch top jazz sound i think. But i'm only comparing my builds with each other, most of my builds so far, differ in some way. This one has the Engleman and Blackwood timbers and a wide X brace with the S.D. pup. a previous build had curly maple and sitka timbers and a narrow Xbrace with a Kent Armstrong pup , the two instruments are as different as black and white, although they both have that hallmark sound you expect to hear from a nice jazz box, the curly maple build has a much more brighter tone, very immediate and responsive. Obviously when played plugged in, different pickups are going to have a varying effect on an instrument, but as acoustic instruments these two have shown me the difference that tone wood selection and bracing can have on basically the same design of guitar.
Patrick, no special formula to the burst, i used Colortone red mahogany stain on the burst after i sprayed the belly with a couple of coats of vintage amber to try to brighten that centre a bit.
