Kauri Pine Soundboards.

Hi All,

Hi Have Just acquired some really nice looking Kauri Pine sound boards, they seem to bee really stiff in both directions, and are similar in grain to Bunya , they have a Bright , glassy tap tone. I would be grateful for any advice on how to treat these in terms of thickness any what to expect in terms of sound .

Now isn't that a coincidense Paul! I just happened onto a chunk of Kauri the other day big enough to book match two archtop backs, nicely quartered and a nice straight grain, very very light , so i'm also interested in its characteristics and how it should be treated.
It's Christmas eve so i'll take this chance to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!!!

I built a parlorish guitar after La Prevotte with a Kauri top. I left it a 2.2mm and it sounded great.

Only done a Kauri topped Archtop.

Never used it myself but if you want to test its stiffness, I can do that for you.
