How good is the dollar at the moment.

Jay, I didn't realize you were so close. I'm in Federal Way at night and Everett during the week days.

I just took the opportunity of the high A$ to get something that was really expensive at US$0.60 and that is Stewmac guitar Vise. I have wanted one for years but being cast iron the postage was a KILLER at previous lower levels of the A dollar. Even now the postage was about $133 AU but I bought other things too so that and the good exchange rate softened the postage on the cast iron.

Hey, I just went to Stew Mac for a few things and when I converted to AUD the price went down rather than up.
How cool is that?

I got my new vice...wonderful to hold tapered necks that used to be a pain to try and hold.
Its very well made (in Taiwan) with proper acme thread as the working threads on both the hold down and the vice so should last a lifetime (or two). It is very heavy as well...hence the postage cost but with help from the Aussie dollar made it more affordable.

Looks like I did the silly thing and spent my play money on visiting the US (got back on Friday) instead of buying toys... just need this dollar to hold our for a few months and I can hopefully make some extravagant purchases!

From all reports the dollar will remain around it's current level for a while Richard.

Hey Woodrat, these vices are great. One of the first things I got was the Stew Mac Vice. I just love it, wouldn't be without it. Could not imagine doing a neck without one. So fast and smooth to adjust. I didn't get quite the same favourable exchange rate as you though.
Cheers
