Heres an old Jordan Strat copy that plays fast and feels nice in the hands, i decided it will be turned into a natural finish, high output rock/metal driven frankenbucker Twisted Evil .
Sure the wood is average(teak i think?) but the sound will be mostly influenced by the hot wound pickups, i have put together a nice little onboard active tube simulator push pull that really makes the stock single coils sound ok-ish?i have a winder, David at Zahngbuckers(very nice pups) working on an alternate wind hot humbucker, as for the single coils, still pondering.
Anyhow....
Firstly, the strip. I used Diggers Paint stripper on the body and sanded the neck back

Surprisingly a few nice features in the wood! And the pieces are well matched, Very Happy
More to come

I am not sure what your name is mate, I looked on a few other posts but can't find it. My guess from your pic is that the body is alder, it should make a nice traditional looking clear finished or burst strat.

The list of possible suspects is ash, swamp ash, basswood, and alder. Its hard to really see the wood in the photo, but I'm leaning more towards alder.
Re: Scrap strat into a high gain machine- New project
It does not look like ash to me cause the texture looks too fine and there is not enough definition or contrast between early and late wood, too much growth in each, ash is generally slower, may be alder but maybe some other wood from indo or whatever but not ash.

Yeah a furniture detailer down the road thinks its teak, i guessed alder. But it doesnt really matter, all the juice is in the electronics, playing the pickups so to speak.
Today i should have it preped for sanding sealer, then i can work on that Yamaha acoustic 12 string sound port
Thanks for pointing out my name cant be found, stuck it in my Signature

Tim, unless teak has other names, I can say that I have never heard of anyone using teak for a guitar, electric or acoustic.

Thanks Martin, g'day Tim. Lillian, you can still make that statement but you could add that you do now know someone who has used teak (tectona grandis) for a mandolin. The first stringed instrument I built was a mandolin using teak for the back and sides as I had some laying around at the time and given its stability I figured it would be fine. I will drag it out one day and post some pics.

Jim, new thread is needed for more info.
Re: Scrap strat into a high gain machine- New project
I'll go for Alder.

Hi Jim
I figured Alder aswell, the old furniture bloke down the road is a stubborn bugger
So i dont argue, just smile and nod. I'd be fairly surprised if it was teak. Sanding sealer goes on today
Unfortunately i recieved my 1 Meg linear vol pot and it is a mini pot! Buggers didn't state that in the description, grrr... ! So the hunt continues
