Hey team, so i have an old 12 string that has a hole in the side rear and i thought "a mini resonator would fill that hole nicely!", it would be in a strange spot as you can see(below) though being so small the resonation would be very minute to the overall tone. 12 string resonator.....

Im wondering if someone could make up a mini resonator or know who may be able to do it for me, to drop in here:

Resonators need to be connected to the strings via the bridge to work.
Not really feasible in this situation.

Yeah, you are of course right, but i still want to put some kind of resonating device in there for a subtle tone change

But i am lost for what exactly, so im hoping to find a resonator designer and give this betty a new life

Whats that you say kim, Do you mean a simple cut or a resonator sound port? Sorry i have no experience in this arena, basicaly a resonator newbie  ah.... maybe i should jst make a lefty sound port (great idea kim), i dunno :?

At the risk of asking the obvious; Why not just patch the hole? Clean up the hole, Overlap a patch on the inside, and flush matching wood out. Not uber elegant but considering the hole....

I wanted to try something different, im now thinking a square brass sheet with a small sound port cut out of the brass, could make it removable and swap port sizes to hit the sweet spot, hmm.

Puff

Try to be nice to people.

That's all we really ask here.

And I can't see any benevolence in your previous post.

Regards
Bob, Geelong

Speaking in my offical capacity as a lefty 12 string owner who knows absolutely sweet FA about resonators...............

I would have though that if the hole had been in the soundboard then replacing the top with some kind of resonator top could have been a goer but sound port sounds like a better option to do something differnt -

I like the brass idea - cos I've never seen that on a guitar.

A big soundport could work. 12 strings are so loud that it could be pretty amazing. You might need to play wearing ear muffs!

Also, if you do try a soundport, and you dont feel thats quite enough, you can always do something, no loss,

With the extra string tension, are you going to have structural problems with such a large hole in the ribs - there's one way to find out!

Good luck anyway - doesnt look like you have much to lose with that particular instrument? Dont forget to post some pictures of the end result.

Cheers
