Markus, do you think that other searches may recover any other cached versions on Google? Your search criteria looks like it should have captured most of them.
Also, the next step. Bob - if you have already committed to trying to recover your hard-drive, is there any idea of timeframe (& cost)? Obviously the recovered pages would be ideal, & then we can fill in the gaps with these cached versions.

Appalled?
Grateful? Oh well, everybody does what he can, don't we? I was just a tad faster than others ;)

Thanks a lot, Paul and Steve!
I double-checked the list and it coincides with what I've got on my HDD. Yes I also downloaded the threads you indicated, and of course this was a great help for me because I could search straightly for the full thread title. And it's also to have several copies. ;) Please keep your files, probably you cached the ones with more messages in them!

Also many thanks to "Puff" for his search result list which allowed me to step through "everything" Google displays (it does not display all "multiple" entries which sometimes are rather different versions than multiple results).
Steve wrote:Markus, do you think that other searches may recover any other cached versions on Google? Your search criteria looks like it should have captured most of them.
I am pretty sure now that we cached all threads google stores in it's cache, but there still is a chance that I have overseen some latest versions. So in the worst case some single (latest) messages could be missing but I really tried to check well for the latest versions.

So boys and girls, even if you think I have them all, please don't throw away your saved threads!

P.S.
Steve, could you do the following corrections (= edit your last post) in your list (instead of copying it once again to a new message...)
Add what's in bold black here:
  • Bracing on a King Billy Top-1 (p.2 missing)
  • Metric-1 (p.2 missing)
  • Mixing shellac.htm
Delete this one from the list. It's an old thread (2008) you can find online right now:
  • Dawgone!!!!!.htm
[/i]

Bob got that one in the back-up: viewtopic.php?t=474. You know, the funny thing is - if you try using the Search function, & put in 'ANZLF Adjustable Neck Joint Group Discussion' - it doesn't come up with any results??

Hi guys,

Nice to see the forum back in action and thanks to Bob and anyone else for putting the hard yards into resurrecting it. Bob, my offers of help are still valid if you need them.

I too was wondering if the search index is broken or having issues? In my desperate attempts to see if any Selmer-related posts had survived (Mike, Nick; I'm looking at you guys!) the search here kept returning nothing, but searching on Google for the same finds at least some of Nick's stuff.

Can anyone confirm that there is in fact a problem with searching here? It would make the rebuild/recovery process a lot easier if it was easy to search for posts. Bob: there are ways to rebuild the search index completely in phpBB if necessary.

Cheers all and welcome back.

Very polite you are. I'll keep the threads, especially the cached ones from Anything Goes. Wouldn't want to lose those. I confess I didn't check if some had more replies than others. I didn't think of that at all.

Things are a bit slow around here  but I have set up a thread re-constructors forum as well.

If the guys who are the keepers of the Google cache threads would like to send me a PM indicating that they are still interested in being thread re-constructors I'll set up a user so that they can go about their work.

Regards
Bob, Geelong

I can't even pretend to understand how Google works with it's caching, but the number of displayed pages that it has cached is expanding. I've just picked up another 27 cached threads that we didn't have in our list yet (have added them to the list above). There's still hope that we may pick up the missing page in Matthew's French bass restoration yet.
Markus/Paul - I've just picked through pages 90-97, & will continue moving backwards (there's got to be some sort of witty metaphor here, but it escapes me).

Hi, I arrived here to see if anything new had been posted by Ervin Somogyi and found that it was all gone. Yikes.

I can't help rebuild, but thanks to those that are putting things back together.

A google search of :

"Somogyi" site:anzlf.com

turned up 157 results, with more than half of them cached. I looked at some and the text seems pretty complete. An example of one from the missing "The Responsive Guitar FAQ" is at:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... en&ct=clnk

I was unsure if the folks rebuilding things had found this stuff so thought I'd pass my finds along in case they'd been considered lost. I don't know how long google caches are available, but I'd be sorry if Ervin's contributions just disappeared.

And thanks again to the folks doing the reconstruction. cheers

That's scary. It didn't appear in the lists above. Perhaps we were relying too much on Google to serve up everything in the cache without us searching deeper.

I wish I had a bit more time on my hands to help some more. :(

Paul - I guess that's inevitable that some things will get missed/lost, but Ervin's Lack of Tonal Punch did turn up & is ready to be re-assembled.
