Re: Guitar Shielding
Hi Ben,
I have used copper foil backed with a conductive self-adhesive and it worked very well, I think I got it from Warmouth? Anyhow it is one of those things I will have thrown in as a box filler on those rare occasions I do an electric order regardless of whether I need it or not because it weights bugger all and when it is on the other side of the globe when you do need it that can be a PIA.
Link found Cool
http://www.warmoth.com/Copper-Shielding ... 1C214.aspx
And here is some local stuff you could use, it's narrower but that is OK.

Must get me some more soon, the last LP copy cleaned me out.
Cheers

Re: Guitar Shielding
Hi Ben, not sure if they still are shipping overseas (looks like they do from their site) but Stewmac have a carbon black based paint that you can just paint into the cavity, handy for 'unusual' shaped cavities. They also do the copper tape.

Re: Guitar Shielding
Hi Ben,
I've used both copper tape and the carbon paint, both function perfectly. I haven't used the tape for years now though - the paint lasts a long time and one tin will do many guitars. I find it easier to apply and besides that, I like the black 'graphite' look to it Wink
Thinking outside the square, here in Australia you can try leadlight suppliers for the copper tape, or electronics suppliers for shielding paint.
Cheers,
Jeremy.

Re: Guitar Shielding
I really like the acheson electrodag silver/copper paint (SP-008A), I've used it for a while and it's got great conductivity (and looks pretty snazzy). It's water based too, so cleanup isn't traumatic.
3 coats looks like

If you're going for tape make sure the actual adhesive is conductive too as some isn't (the stewmac stuff is though). I do find the paint works better especially for tight areas and weird shaped cavities.

Hi Matt
Did you get your shielding paint in OZ? I have googled it and only found it on ebay in the US.
Cheers

Re: Guitar Shielding
I actually get the little pots of it from ebay. I've been meaning to chase a better supply but you get about 3 or 4 guitars worth from each little pot so it's not awfully expensive for the result you get.
I'd buy a gallon of the stuff if I could; I really dig it. I've even resurrected some rack gear using it to fix PCB traces (although that's probably classed as misuse)...

Re: Guitar Shielding
I use the Stewmac Carbon paint as well. I used the copper tape for years before trying the paint. I wouldn't mind giving that silver/copper paint a try - it looks pretty snazzy.
