Further to Craig's photo process summary above, here is an OLF tutorial on the top/back carving process which is essentially the same process but does a couple of things a little differently along the way.

Here is an OLF link to a tutorial for doing a bolt on neck on an archtop in case the dovetail joint scares you.

Here is another OLF post which is focused more on the tools people use for carving. This is what has inspired more to have a crack making my own planes for the task (separate post on this)

Pics of this guitar appears on nearly every luthiers forum. Its impressive but it doesn't prove that quality of top wood ISNT important.

Welcome to the forum....a? from Hawkes Bay.

You know he sold that thing for about $53k! That's gotta be the most impressive thing about it.

Had the Teredo not helped create the sound holes, this wood would have been cherished as master grade Sitka fitting of only the finest and most expensive guitars.

This is off of benedetto's website. So therefore you couldnt say that the quality of the wood isnt important. Because its really good wood just with an interesting soundhole design!

Although what is said on they're website could just be real good advertising?

Also my first post on this forum been having a lurk around for awhile now but just got a post up!

Welcome to the forum Keegan. Good to have you on board.

Have you built anything as yet? If so we'd love to see your creation. Feel free to start another thread. Maybe introduce yourself and show us some handiwork. Doesn't even have to be an instrument.

Havent built anything as yet but the plans are in the mix should get them finalised soon then onto wood but just starting out with all of it. Getting tools together and all that sort of stuff. Waiting for my house to be built to give me workshop space should be another 6 months or so hopefully.

But just so you know its going to be a neck through semi hollow body telecaster shape body with a triple humbucker setup and a bit of mish mash between les paul and tele specs.

Will certainly post it up when its done!

Now i should probably get out of this thread with my own junk! People will think we are having a discussion about archtops! :P

That worm infested top looks amazing! I really wonder how it sounds! But what a unique looking guitar!

Makes me want to build an archtop =)
