Cairns Uke Festival Next Year
G'day All
This could be fun; click here for info.
Does anyone have any other news for this event in 2010?

I'm in touch with Gabby, that is putting it on. She has asked me to post to the forum when details are firmed up more about what is going to be happening, displays etc.
She want's to be able to have market stalls of luthiers hawking their wares, and hoped that I would be able to participate there, and let others on the forum know, so they may be able to attend. Details were sketchy last time I talked to here a few weeks ago about costs for stalls, and I didn't ask about any of the other events.
I'll talk to her again soon and see what I can find out.
July is the absolute best time of year to see Cairns as well.

Yes, that's the one.
I know it's a long way off yet, but if you think that you'll will be attending, we've got some room at the Inn. One spare bedroom with a Queen bed, and then theirs the lounge, the floor, or patio, or back yard. It's the dry time of year, and it goes way down to 17 at night, so you'll need to be prepeared for the winter chill.
And I'm not showing anybody my stash.

The Hip himself, what a small world!
I noticed the links from this site pointing to the festival site so I though I'd better check it out.
As you would understand, as the festival is a year away, many details are unknown, including stall costs.
There may be even two market locations on two days, but seeing we are in the early stages of the organisation all we can say is that we will be offering the opportunity to luthiers to display their stuff, so just pencil in the weekend, it'll be great fun!
As soon as market details are confirmed I will post them on this site. For general updates regarding the festival, keep an eye on our site and/ or follow us via Twitter.

I'm with you there Allen.Allen wrote:If you leave my bin looking like Johns, there will be hell to pay, and Karen's not going to be a happy chappy.

Wish I could make it but it's unlikely as the turn of the fiscal is a busy time of year for me

Cheers
Kim
I would like to book some Accommodation in the main dwelling before the riff raff sign up thanks Allen and Karen.
As for preparation it would be wise to plant a small hedge to screen the skip bin required for the empties. Stop the neighbours from talking.

i think the idea is great and id love to come up for a week when i know more details. i think at this stage i will be only spectating and making the most of the market stalls. Did you have anything to do with planting the seed on this one allen or is it just coincidental?

No Andy, didn't have anything to do with it.
I'm a bit of a mushroom at times. Just off to work at the crack of dawn, and puttering away in the shed most other times. It took a few people that I ran into at the Woodworkers Guild and the Tanks Markets to tell me all about what they saw in the newspaper.
I'm still not up on any of the details. I gotta make a point of getting out more often.

Not at all Bob, we fully understand that it's 'whole body' commitment from you mate. Your an elitist and your level of indulgence requires 'complete' dedication and uncompromising submersion. In fact you should have a T-shirt made which reads "If you cut me, do I not froth vigorously settling to a smooth creamy head with ultra fine bead?"bob wrote:Surely you blokes aren't suggesting that I'm a piss head?

Cheers and wish I could be there to fill a wheelie bin with you blokes.

Hmmm... I'm going to have to figure this one out! I've been in touch with Gaby, and I'd love to come up from Hobart for this one. Oh, I forgot, I have to get to Hobart from Santa Cruz first...
I'd like to teach my "Build a Uke in Four Days" the week before the actual festival...
Any thoughts?

being a cairns resident and avid reader and fan of the bastion of journalistic integrity
that is the cairns post i can let you all know that this uke festival has absolutely divided the community. the paper, most days uses its pages to blast the mayor and her ukulele festival. most people up here think its a bit of a joke. those are the same people who think a V8 race is a cultural event.
i interrupted a bunch of blokes at work who were bagging the ukes to tell them how keen i was on it. the looks on their faces were priceless. i think they still think i was taking the piss.
basically the community thinks it wont be a tourist puller and so wont get behind it in large numbers.
perhaps if the cairns post were to have some letters, e-mails etc from people all around the country and world, in support of the festival. then attitudes might change.
uke fans of the world unite.

How about we round up a few Cairns rev-heads who support us and do a parade through the CBD during the festival playing Ukuleles in the back of their V8sliam_fnq wrote: ... those are the same people who think a V8 race is a cultural event.
