Nice job man.

Love the wood. Hard to find it with the figure perpendicular to the grain like that.

Cheers Hip.

thanks Hip

i was very lucky in gettin a few blocks of the stuff a decade ago...all appearing to be from the same tree and each block yielding 2 bodies

but the catch was i had to get them roughsawn (looked like butchered with a chainsaw personally heh) and in size (many pieces)

still a good deal and am busy utilising the wood now after all these years

btw i am now constructing a cocobolo neck for this guitar as the neck as pictured has been installed a little too close to the bridge...i discovered this when i couldnt intonate properly hehe

so instead of moving the bridge back or neck forward i think it best to just make a new neck :D

hopefully things be done by next week but things are busy busy

Wow! That looks awesome!

Looks like quite a round fretboard, know what the radius is? 7 3/4"?

Love the grain, Nice job!

thanks aussieadam

well...hmmn....

...don't know how to say this ...but looks can indeed be deceiving :)

the fretboard radius on the viet r/w neck is ZERO ...i.e. completely flat which is my preference

it initially had a 10-'ish" radius but it had a back bow which i had to sand out ..the truss rod in it is only single way acting

...there was initially a full length dragon inlayed on nearly entire length of fretboard...most of it was sanded away with only the broken wing and broken tail remaining...i put in the dots myself ...tht is why they are not straight :)

the newer cocobolo neck is also zero radius fretboard btw

i enjoy a bit of slide squawking

Haha... well goes to show just how good my eye is... I was WAY off! ;)

I have never played with zero radius on anything other than classicals, is there a reason why you prefer it?

The reason I asked about the neck is because I haven't got to play with anything as round as a 7 1/4" and was wondering much the same thing!

...still looks great!

well yes...a few reasons

1. me first guitar was a classical and me 2nd was a squier 7 1/2" radius strat

on the squier, i found i was always fretting out on bends on comfortable action...which obligated me to raise action until it was uncomfortable but i didnt fret out

the logical solution to me anyways is a flat radius

2. the 7 1/2" radius is supposed to be more comfortable to play than a flat radiused board with the theory being that one's fretting hand is curved and when one goes to strum and finger barre chords it would consequently be easier...

i never found this to be the case :)

at least not in any significant way

3. easier to construct since radiusing fingerboard requires extra work ...

moreover ..it is easier to install the frets in too ...relative to a curved fingerboard surface

4. much easier to play slide on since the slide itself is straight and not curved
