This is my 1st attempt at a dred, it's taken a long time to make but i think it's turned out pretty good.

The dredie looks great M8, how about a bit of details. What woods, when did you start, where did you learn etc, etc. Don't be shy I am sure we would all like to know a bit more about how she came together.

I started nearly a year ago wasn't sure what I was doing at first & went to see Gerard Gilet about some wood who was a great help. Purchased some nice AA Qld Maple & sitka spruce with Rosewood fret board & bridge. Got onto StewMac & brought some tools to get me going. I read too many books which confused me as everyone make theirs different to the next person, which is great but confusing as to which way to make mine & having my 4 & 6yr old running around my legs wanting me to play cricket I got distracted. The guys down at Syd Guitar Setups helped me to finish it off, frets, nut & saddle, they helped alot with some good advise. I've started my next one with some nice Tas Blackwood. The kids aren't running around my legs anymore so I've got more time to play in the shed which i'm looking forward to making as I'm sure it will be better then the 1st one.

I'll bet you're really hooked now huh ? There's nothing quite like playing a guitar you created yourself.

This looks to be a great build and hard to believe it's your first . What's the plan for No. 2 ?

Looks real good Thommo for a first effort! I have just finished my first and i'm hooked. You will find many great people here who have extensive guitar building expertise. I have been helped on many ocassion by the forum members during my build.

Glad you made it mate! Ive seen this guitar in the flesh and it looks very nice indeed. The sitka is stunning and the photos do justice to the maple. Well done!

Welcome aboard Thommo. It's quite rare to see someone's first instrument not built with Rosewood or Mahogany. This one has great lines and that Maple is a stand out. No wonder you picked it.

Nice work Thommo. I hope you are enjoying a bit of time playing #1 while also building #2. I like your choice of Australian timbers. I also finished my first one recently and I got some good advice and tools from Gerard - and I just bought the timber for my next build from him. You will find the experience available in this forum to be invaluable. cheers. Mark

Hi Thommo, that IS a fine looking guitar.
The closeup of your neck-to-body join is a bit fuzzy, but it still reveals nice clean work, and a good looking joint. Good job!

Like several asked, what's next?

Is that your first attempt at a guitar or first attempt at a dred...either way its quality work.

Welcome to the fold Thommo, great first effort looks like nice clean work, a joy to play I'm sure. I don't think I'd be game to show my first guitar on the forum. Althought built in 76-77 I still enjoy playing it. You are right about the information thats out there, it can be confusing there are so many variations, ideas and procedures, in time you'll settle for what works for you. Well done

That is a fine looking Blonde Guitar you have built there Thommo. I used woods made in Australia for my first including N.T. ironwood for the fret board and bridge which I can get for the price of a bit of sweat.

I would be curious to know your woodworking background as well as "AUSSIEBLUESMAN" and "PHANTOM". I'm a Carpenter/Joiner and worked in Joinery for years so I feel like I had a big start on guys with out that sort of background.
