Silica deposits on IRW back
Silica deposits on IRW back
Whats the best way to deal with silica deposits on an IRW back set. Ive heard lemon juice can be used to remove same while others simply pick the deposits out.
Any ideas would be welcome

I've not seen the silica deposits in IRW, but I just built a couple of boxes from some Kwila that was full of white deposits (silica ?). I used some Rosewood stain that I bought for a test on the opportunity grade wood that we all got recently. It worked a treat on hiding the white spots. It might do the trick for you as well.

This wood is the same batch of IRW youre talking about.
I dont who came up with the lemon juice idea...we use hydroflouric acid to dissolve silica when pulling palynolgy fossils out of rock samples.

Hydrofluoric acid? Man, that stuff is scary as hell. You don't want that stuff in your shop, hell, you don't want it in your town/suburb.kiwigeo wrote:I dont who came up with the lemon juice idea...we use hydroflouric acid to dissolve silica when pulling palynolgy fossils out of rock samples.
I had to write a safety report on that stuff in my last job. I ain't never going near that shit again.
