Welcome to the forum Scotti. I don't build basses, but there's got to be a few here that know something about them.
I love the head stock on that one AP. I was asked by a bass player about 6 months ago about building an acoustic base with that style of head stock. I had to turn him down until I was more confident about being able to build one, plus I really didn't know squat about an acoustic base. Now I know who's brain to pick when the time comes.

From what I've seen Allen you've got the skills to make a scroll headstock, no worries ... I just started carving and stopped when it looked about right. I've got scale drawings for the headstock somewhere.
Mine is a relica of the old Ampeg basses from the 60's, but the Maton viol shaped electric basses have a smaller scroll which would be easier, there's lots of good Italian and German ones to have a look at too.
As far as acoustic bass guitars go; it's not something I can think of a musical use for, so i've never wanted to build or own one. They seem to be one of the most acoustically compromised instruments around, IMVHO

It's killing me that I can't get my cruddy old plywood Höfner up here to practice on in Brisbane ... Do you know of a cheap way to transport a Double Bass interstate ?
I just don't 'get' acoustic bass guitars, and I've played heaps of them in the process of selling them, ( not very enthusiastically :) ) to people ...

Man both the Ampeg retro and the work in progress with the binding look sweet. Not at that level yet but it's something I'm learning to do as I go!

Look I've never been a massive fan of them myself as they really (obviously) don't generate a great deal of volume but I have found that they do make a great tool to build good finger technique when you're sat in front the TV watching the news
Will post some shots of mine as soon as I can figure out how to!!!
