New addition to the workshop

Post by Allen » Sat Aug 23, 2008 3:01 pm

I must have one of the best wives in the world. I've been lusting over table saws for years, but have never had the room, money, time, or gumption to get serious about getting one. Well, the better 1/2 and I were walking through Bunnings a couple of months ago and I stopped to look at the GMC crap, then a big step up the the Bosch crap, and the better 1/2 says that "Those look like garbage. Your not going to be happy with that....why don't you buy yourself a nice one".

Well, heaps of looking around. Reading reviews, making inquires only to find that the saws that I were considering weren't available for God knows how long. There were other saws available, but the shop footprint was just too big for me. Then I was informed that the Jet Super Saw was on at a really good price, so I had a look at the specs, and reviews and bit the bullet and placed the order. Ordered last Friday, shipped Monday and dropped into my garage on Wednesday. I've just got it assembled and adjusted finally today, and did my first cuts on it.

It's got the sliding table and a Biesemeyer type fence. I also bought the tenon jig, to handle those neck tenons. Also the mobile base, as this thing comes in at around the 290 kg. mark. Too much to want to push around bare handed. The mobile base works a treat.

That's funny Martin. I've been battling the flue since Wednesday night, and I didn't take any time off work even though I was bloody useless there, 'cause I didn't want them thinking I was bludging, and staying home to be with the saw.

That looks like a bloody nice piece of machinery. It sure shows up my $250 Ryobi piece-o-crap.

I'm sure we'd all love to hear your thoughts on it after a few weekends worth of use.

Now, I just have to manoeuvre the wife into reading distance of the computer screen and... 8)
