Last week I was at my annual guitar camp summer holiday in Burwell near Cambridge, learning guitar with Ed Boyd - a fabulous guitarist with the band Flook. On the thursday night the tutors give a concert and the up-coming young musicians (of which there are many) play as well. I have made a guitar for Joe Bardwell - a great young guitarist - and while rushing to get on stage during a downpour of rain, he tripped and managed to snap the neck of the guitar (luckily the break was a clean one that I am currently reparing). He borrowed my cedar/maple Grand Concert guitar "Samhain" to play the set. My friend videoed it and has put it on Youtube. I am proud of this for three reasons - first to see such great talented musicians, one of whom is using an instrument I made make great music, secondly personal vanity and pride that my guitar is on Youtube, and thirdly I'm pleased at how well a guitar designed for fingerstyle with a cedar top stands up to some pretty heavy strumming. Joe literally grabbed the guitar and went on and one string sounds a little out of tune at the beginning of the set, but I hope you enjoy some great playing from Joe and a fabulously talented fiddler (and piper) Lizzy Doe:

Dave, it wasn't until I sat watching this little clip that I realised the etymology of your guitarmaking name 'De Faoite'. Call me slow ... It helps if I don my best crap -Irish accent and try saying it out loud.
BTW I didn't really mean to post twice ( above ) it makes a bad pun worse with the repetition.
I enjoyed the clip.
Cheers,
A.P.

Hi Dave,
I agree what you say about Lizzy, she plays really good. My favourite bit is the swinging legs. Oh yeh, the guitar sounds great as well. Sounds like a terrific concert. Excellent weekend!
A.P. you arent thinking of an old Peter Sellers radio sketch "ah Seamus, ya played a bum note..." are you?
