Sound Clips

Post by Localele » Sun Jun 28, 2009 7:00 am

Bob has kindly uploaded some short clips to his site and here are the links. This is my 3/4 guitar in all Camphor Laurel that was finished a little while back.Played it with a few sets of strings and it now has DiAddario 12-53 Phospher Bronze.Photo for scale on the day it was strung up , getting run-in gently with some nice finger picking.

Great sound Micheal! Good bottom end from a small size guitar. Nice compression and brightness in the tone. Handy pickin and strumming there to! Looks like Camphor Laurel is going to be a great alternative wood for guitar building.

Thanks for sharing

Cheers

Hi michael, gee i didnt think it would be sounding as bright and sweet. Where i grew up they called those trees weeds, so its good to see they have a use. It's great to see builders mucking around with different 'unknown risky timbers' ande in your case it has definately paid off. I would suggest that you almost have the ironing of wrinkles soughted out, however in the photo it may just be noticable that there are some definate wrinkles in that finish too. I think perserverance will be the key to success, but well done on an otherwise faultless looking and sounding guit box, i love it

I didn't expect to hear such a big and warm voice from such a little guitar - nice job!

Thanks for sharing.

The bass on those little boxes always surprises me. I expect twang and get a growl. Its great. That weed tree has some pretty wood hiding under the bark. Thought it was koa before I read your description. Thanks for sharing Michael.
