Yeah....what everybody else said ....just beautiful. How did you keep the binding so light ? It looks like timber and stain penetrates even under tape ?

As Kim says, seal it with shellac first and you should be OK. This is standard practice in the antique restoration game. Lacquer is very sensitive to "foreign body".
