I'm looking forward to it. If you have time, I'd love to chat over lunch or dinner, on me of course.

Re: The Ukulele workshop manual

Mine arrived yesterday. Looking forward to having the time to actually sit down and read it over the holiday weekend. But from what I have seen, it's brilliant.

Re: Elmer Guitar

Oliver, I have made a few of purchases from Elmers over the past 7 ~ 8 months and I am quite pleased with what they sent, especially for what they charged. All but one of the purchases came from China, but the shipping time wasn't bad. They got it in the mail quickly, it was US Customs took the bulk...

Re: A new book on building ukuleles

Oh Graham, that would be wonderful. I would love the chance to meet in person. If you are there, lunch is on me. Looks a good excuse for trip to Australia Lillian :D Lillian, I would be delighted to sign a copy for you, the only difficulty being that the copies ordered through Kickstarter for backer...

Re: A new book on building ukuleles

Graham, what are the chances of getting a signed copy? I totally understand if you would rather not. The wife worked at a book shop for years, and I know what an author goes through when signing stock.

Nice job with the scarf joint. What's the wood? I like the grain pattern.

Re: Hollowbody electric

Rod, that is just lush. One of the things I plan on doing as soon as we win the lottery is to commission a guitar. Though having me play it is probably an insult to your guitar, but there you go, I want one anyway. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Re: StewMax Membership and Free Shipping

I joined about two months ago. It's paid for itself twice over in free shipping and the discounted books and media. The free shipping is slow for me as well. It takes it at least a week to go from Ohio to PNW. But the discounted price for two day shipping is more than reasonable. It's what I would h...

From the looks of things, the templates were a good call. The neck is very clean, looks smooth and silky.

Hello Dave, welcome to the forum. Looks like you are off to a fantastic start. The neck looks like you've been carving them for years. I'm sure it will be a stunner when its done.

Re: Semihollow fifteen inch

Hi Rod, this one is coming along nicely. Its looking clean and sharp. Its going to be a beauty when it's done. I really like your wood choices. I have to say you guys are spoiled for beautiful native woods. Our most figured native woods are walnut and cherry, after that it gets pretty plain. Not tha...

Things like this can be so frustrating. I'm glad you aren't letting it stop you.

In the picture you captioned "Started routing the body on the router table. First side went ok." Was that done with one pass or was that multiple passes?

That's really nice. I haven't seen anything like it on a guitar or uke. Nicely done.

Re: Builder Just Joined The Forum

Thanks for the photo Andy. Your neck looks perfect, as smooth as a baby's bum. I can see what you mean about using the light to help you work. I am planning on using poplar for my first run at doing the neck. The pine I can get up here isn't worth using. I'm making the neck because my son asked me t...

Welcome Andy. I am looking forward to your posts. I'm trying my hand on the electric side of the house. I hope to get started on the neck here in a bit.

Re: Truss Rod Channel

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the insight. I thought I might be overthinking things, but just wanted to double check. The radiused sanding beam has arrived, so I should be able to get started making sawdust and shavings this weekend. Allan, thanks for the video link. It was fascinating to watch the ...

Truss Rod Channel

I've watched hours of Youtube videos of guys making electric guitar necks. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand why they don't cover the channel before they put the fret board on. I've watched a few of 'em cover the channel with tape, smear glue all over the neck and the fretboard, ta...

Re: Safe-T-Planer sources AU/NZ

Good to hear you like the TUSQ nuts. I've never used them before and thought I'd give them a try. Yeah, I'm a bit closer to StewMac than you are. Since this is my third order from them in as many months, I opted for their membership. 3 purchases and I will have recouped what I spent on the membershi...

Re: Safe-T-Planer sources AU/NZ

I ordered a set of Grover Mini Rotomatics (205 Series) 3+3 Tuners for a guitar I'm making for me, a set of Gotoh Magnum Lock-Trad 6-In-Line Tuners for Ryan's neck, a couple of TUSQ nut blanks and for the less sexy, and for the less sexy, some supplies for the shop.

Re: Safe-T-Planer sources AU/NZ

Mick, that is usually my plight as well. But sometimes the stars align and I get lucky. That and I have been on StewMac's mailing list for about 15 years. But I do appreciate you bringing the subject up. They have slashed the price on their replacement bits to just over $5 usd, so if you were planni...

Re: Slow neck carving

Those David Fletcher videos are very good. He clearly knows his stuff and explains well. Much is only relevant to the electric neck but there are definitely a few ideas that are useful. What I'd never heard of is anyone making there own marker dots... never heard of polymer clay. It struck me that ...

Re: Slow neck carving

I'm about to start the first one I've carved in, well, forever it seems. I've been watching David Fletcher's youtube videos for his strat style guitar build. I'm not completely sold on his method, but I think I'll be following most of how he does it. Unless someone has a suggestion for a "better" (b...

Re: Safe-T-Planer sources AU/NZ

StewMac has a sale going on until May 21. The Safe-T-Planer is $25 off - knocking it down to $32.23 and the replacement bits are $5.67. With Mick's ringing endorsement I think I'm going to have to spring for one. I've started a practice neck build and I think this will make my life a bit easier. Tha...
