Re: An OM for Mariann...

Thanks Steve, Tod. As to the neck, I guess time will tell. It seems perfectly stable, and as the events with Mr. Thames point out, CF rods don't appear to help unless applied in a particular way. Double acting truss rod and the Sassafras worked much like Qld Maple, which I usually use.... Overall, I...

Re: Mirotone Mirobild & Mirocat

I've just had a spray with some 3220 on Bubinga. I know, not a Dalberga sp. but, it ran like crazy on the first coat. I mean side to side runs, and about four on the back. I sprayed a light cover coat as usual, but I am happy i learned how to fix runs..... I used the same batch I mixed to finish coa...

Nice work there Craig. Very elegant. I've decided to just go 5,7,9,12,15 which uses up my 6mm dots. Steve, I'll shout you a beer anytime. My Mum's moved back to Perth after50 years away, and as I haven't seen her for ten years, I'll likely visit someday soon. Will look you up then....Thanks for the ...

Re: A Tele-style for me...

Hi Stu. Straight edge. I saw a you tube clip about making a one-off jig, and did that. I Set the neck on the pocket-to-be, ran a straight edge to get it aligned properly, clamped a piece of perspex on each side, then one across the butt, and went for it. First thing I did was make it too deep, so I ...

I've got to decide on a fretboard inlay set for a 12-string I'm building for a mate. I do't want to buy more pearl just yet, so a quick forage in the pearl jar gives me this lay out. Like? I've bound the board with white/blackpurfs and curly maple binding, so I think it's busy enough without going o...

Re: A Tele-style for me...

Hi Stu. Thanks, and yeah, the dyes were powdered, and from Guitar Australia, IIRC. Comes in 5 colours, red, black, blue, yellow, mahogany, I think. Some dissolves well in water, and some better in solvent but I only used water......Still plenty of colour....I reckon these jars will last as long as I...

Nice work. The tapered chamfer gives it a unique look. I like it. I'm assuming you didn't join the neck with an angle?

Re: A Tele-style for me...

Thanks Steve, Greg, sorry I missed your questions. The dye takes getting used to. I watched NZ Nick's tutorial on his tobacco burst, but failed miserably at doing something like that, so I just wiped it on and rubbed in circles till I got something I liked. The dyes I got are really powerful and onl...

Re: A dread for Jack

Cheers, Shane. Ah. The celluloid. 1.5mm x2mm of bending on the flat. If I never domit again, it'll still be too soon. I traced the outline of the top on my bench, and, using pan head stitch screws every 10-15mm, help it down flat. I pinched the missus's hair dryer to heat it up for the bending, and ...

Re: A dread for Jack

Thanks guys. Tod, the bridge ended up like this as a result of a brain fart. I cut the bridge blank up for the head plate instead of the fretboard tail, as I thought. Sooooooo, I had a wafer of Maple, and went with that. The maple is also why i want the bone pins now. I think it'll tie in better.....

A Tele-style for me...

As my Tele is my favourite electric, I thought it might be fun to build one. I changed the headstock, and experimented with a couple things I had in mind. Celluloid binding, and aniline dyes, specifically, and here's the result: Body and neck: New Guinea Rosewood leftover from a project in the house...

Re: Couple of recent builds from NZ

Nice. I'm not sure about the burst, but then I am not a fan of any burst, so don't pay any attention to me. Two things you've done that I'm trying out too. The M&T neck joint, and the dyes. I did the M&T joint on a 12-string I'm working on now. I have to say, I'm a convert. That's a pretty guitar, t...
