Plain old metho is just that.It can have all sorts of rubbish in it . Mainly water. De-natured Absolute Alcohol (DAA) is a much more refined product and doesn't contain water. This is the stuff to use for French Polishing. It is also great for cleaning your glasses. White Spirits (Home dry-cleaning f...

Grab a pick and a slide and get some nice blues going John.Having hung out in your kitchen maybe a beer bottle neck slide may be the appropriate choice.Could be you will need 2 people to get it wailing.

Woodsheds are good and a close second is a tree on the ground outside ready to be cut and put in the woodshed.

With a mini tanker we might even open the wood shed. Have to be careful of snakes in there though. Security is always an issue.

Re: Sidebending machine steel 'slats' -where do you get it?

After afew days bending sides with Allen I can attest to the fact that the aluminium flashing works great. The need for "Spring" just doesn't seem to apply here as the bender and the timber you are bending take care of that.Being able to quickly flatten and then reload is a big plus.If you are conce...

While the soprano and concert do have different sounds , the tenor has a very different voice again.Much fuller and more musical. Going up to a baritone has the same sized step up again.

I can't imagine you will even get close to a reasonable price to ship one saw over.Bearing in mind that most of the saws in the US come out of China and Taiwan and are available here in different colours it would seem to be easier to buy one here. _________________ Cheers from Micheal. Jim , The Paulownia is a bit heavier than balsa but not as variable in its weight compared to young and old Balsa. It works a bit better as well because it is a little tougher.

Re: Lattice Braced Concert Uke

My first thought Allen is that the lattice pieces could be half that thickness. All that timber will certainly stiffen up the top again. From memory Smallman's lattice was made of 3mm thick timber for a full size guitar.Keep up the good work.

Definitely keep the small saw . It will make them both more productive and save a lot of time changing set-ups.

Have you ever tried "pulling " the lacquer like french polish. Make up a "rubber" as you do for french polishing and then wet it up with thinners. The action is like polishing and once you get a feel for getting the lacquer soft it can be manipulated around and pushed into the pores.Let it dry again ...

Nice job there Pete. Good to see and hear the little buggers in action.I'm a bit like Allen though, there usually isn't anyone left standing if I start singing.I have been known to play as a request for a "Fire Drill".

They would be male fruit flies who are attracted to the smell of freshly worked Huon Pine. Funniest thing is they get a bit drunk/stoned on the fumes. It's about the only time you would ever know the little buggers exist.

Re: Good air compressor?

Hi Matt, I was walking through Bunnings yesterday and they had a pile of 2.5hp /40l tank compressors for $99 . Even if you need to replace the filter /regulator after a while they are still good value. Nearly bought one myself to take the compressor off and use the tank as a vacuum tank.
