While you are practicing spraying don't forget to actually practice cutting back the surface and then spraying it again as you would an instrument.Try the french polish "rubber" method for manipulating the lacquer as well. It can give surprising results with hungry pores and much better to practice ...

It's also bloody hard to get any build with water but at least it settles out and the "orange peel " goes away quick.Allen wrote:

Re: Metric
I use a few old world measures as well.Once the sides are bent the measurements don't matter much as everything has to fit the body and the top doesn't mind if it is measured in inches or mm. The one that is hard to get is cm.I think only schoolies use those. This chart may help for the smaller measu...

It looks like it is building up nicely Isabelle. Oil finishes are slow to get a result with. It just takes a lot of wipe on wipe off to get some body .Yours looks like it is getting there.

Re: Wood Shed Security
I keep telling myself it is a very friendly Carpet Python.I see them on top of stacks occasionally and they don't worry too much as long as you don't want the board they are on. Martin, I cut up some really nice Snakewood a couple of weeks ago and made mallets out of it.Makes you wonder sometimes. I...

Practice and hard work would seem to be the Key alright. Most people equate thousands of hours of making instruments with being able to knock out killer riffs at the drop of a hat.Time spent making might help your understanding but it sure does't help your playing at all.First hand knowledge here.

Kiwi Clock Proudly showing off his newly-leased downtown apartment to a couple of friends late one night, a drunk Kiwi led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass gong hanging on the wall. 'What's that big brass gong for?' one of the friend's asked. 'Issss nod a gong. Issss a talking Aust...

The top is thinner than spruce and the bracing is pretty fine too, but the sound is good.I imagine it is like a Mahogany top but haven't built one yet to compare.Shellac inside the body to seal it up from the effects of moisture. http://www.anzlf.com/phpBB2/userpix/139_soundbaordbracing_3.jpg The fi...

Dreadnaught QLD Maple and New Guinea Rosewood
I don't think I ever posted this guitar that a mate came down to help build for himself. It is built to be not too flashy and to play.I get to see and hear this one regularly and it has developed into a great sounding guitar. Those Dreads sure have a big sound. The "D" is for Dean and more and more his...

Craig , The finish is Mirotone Nitrocellulose Lacquer and is 60% gloss. When you buff it becomes quite clear but not quite as glassy/toffee apple like the 100% Gloss. Using Gidgee is no problem at all.It has a bad reputation for being hard but actually works quite well.I would rather cut up Gidgee or...

Finished and playable but the rain down here seems to have put drop marks on the NGR.This one sounds bloody great although that's only from the maker and I could be slightly biased. My thoughts on bridge pin placement compared to the saddle slot. If the angle over the saddle creates more or less down-force on the bridge surely keeping the holes parallel to the slot makes sense. To give the strings a more equal pressure. This pressure may change with the gauge of string but I cou...

It is a bit hard to generalise about timbers without knowing what the actual tree is. A bit more body of the OOO. The shape is a new take on the traditional square ended pyramid bridge. Not all that sold on the idea but it looks hard to make the square version without jigging up especially.':?' No idea on the weight Kim but it is gidgee and 150 x 25 x 8 mm. http://www.anzlf.com/phpBB2...
