Time for a drum sander
I'm getting pretty addicted to this instrument making caper now and I think the time has come to upgrade to a drum sander. Warren from Epic Guitars has very generously offered his sander for me to use but it's the best part of a 40 min drive each way to his workshop and it's not always convenient fo...

Re: Trevor Gore Course- Principles of Modal Tuning
If anyone gets the chance to see/hear Warren Adams he is a great player and a really nice bloke to boot as well. I was down at Warren's workshop this afternoon sanding up some uke set's. I haven't heard him play yet but he is a really nice guy, very generous with his time and equipment and from wha...

Re: Stiff Grover Machine head
I got a set of these a few weeks ago. I bid around $11-$12 I can't remember exactly and was outbit but got a second chance offer to buy them for the starting price. They seem to be genuine and shipping was pretty fast aswell. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3L-3R-Grover-Rotomatics-Tuners-102-18N-fit-Guil...

Re: 1st uke build.....help......please
Well she's finished and I'm pretty happy with the way it's come out. I really thought with the battleship bracing and near armour plating for the top and back that it end up sounding like a uke from the $2 shop but I reckon it sounds like it would be worth at least 10 bucks =). Unfortunately Allen t...

Re: 1st uke build.....help......please
Thanks for that John
It gives a pretty good overview, so once the ukes finished and settled in I can get an idea of what might work best.

Re: 1st uke build.....help......please
Thanks for all the advice everyone. I had some aquila's delivered yesterday that I got off ebay so I'll throw them on to get started and let it all settle for a few months then start experimenting.

Re: 1st uke build.....help......please
Thanks Allen, I think your right about the Aquilla's they seem to be the ones you read about the most, but then again after all the mistakes I've made with this uke maybe they will make an ordinary uke sound good. As for the action, I snuck home from work for an extended "lunch break" one day and in...

Thanks for that Mikey
I wasn't sure what to do with that stripe but I'm pretty happy with the way it came out
and stealing ideas is part of the fun of forums like these so please knock yourself out.

Re: Heads up for some bargains.
Thanks for that Paul.
I got 5 packs from my local store, don't know if that will be enough but I guess I'll find out once I set up somewhere to use them.

Re: 1st uke build.....help......please
Thought I'd post a couple of progress pics, just waiting for the tuners to come so I can sort out where to drill the holes then it's final sanding and finishing time.
Was also wondering which strings most people use for ukes and where they get them?
Anyway better get back to work.

Re: 1st uke build.....help......please
Thanks Allen that's exactly the type of feedback I was after. I had a bit of time today so I sanded the crap out of the top and got it down to 1.6/ 1.7 most of the way around. Couldn't do much about the foot print of the transverse braces but I took a fair bit of mass off them, also took a bit more ...

1st uke build.....help......please
Hi there everyone, I'm both new to the forum and luthiery in general. I have built a couple of guitars now, the first one with Chris Wynne at Montsalvat in Melbourne and the other is a work in progress here in my shed. I've also started a couple of tenor ukes and having no plans for them i've just b...
