Geophysicists...a strange breed. Theyre not hard to spot in the office...they're the guys wearing bright coloured braces and a bow tie. Theyre also the guys who promise to come out and witness a wellsite seismic survey but they end up either crashing the vehicle on the way to the rig or failing the ...

Well after my shave this morning I decided to have a bit of fun. I headed down to my local cafe and scared the cr*p out of the girls behind the counter. Once theyd picked themselves up off the floor they couldnt stop rubbing their hands over my shiney naked nut.

For Craig L.....

Right guys. Craig's doing the chemo thing and he's lost his much beloved locks. I dont see why he should be the only one with a lovely shiney nut so I got busy with the trusty Veritas blockie and gave myself a quick trim. Anyone else up for a show of support for our mate? Shave your nut and post up ...

I like the sound of HHG for gluing up braces where tack time is very short but for gluing up large surfaces it sounds like a veritable P in the A and the disadvantages seem to outweigh the advantages.

Probably a stupid question but if using HHG for fixing a top/back to sides is such a major operation then what is the advantage of doing it this way over using Titebond? I know some of you will say ease of undoing the glue joint but Ive undone Titebond back/side joints on one of my guitars twice and...

I use Behlens 4F grade pumice, bought from Lee Valley. One container will last you a life time.

The pumice does get worked into the pores but its primary function is to grind up the wood fibres into a slurry which does most of the filling.

Okay Ive just finished pore filling the other half of the rosewood back using pumice after putting on two spit coats of 1lb shellac. To be honest after spending the same time with the pumice as I did with the egg whites the pumice gives a better result. Pic attached are taken after three body sessio...

When working a top to final thickness I judge when Im there by flexing it. You soon get to feel when the top is at optimum thickness by how it feels when you flex it. I use the same test for sides and backs.

Ive got some Bunya in my shop and to tell the truth I cant say Im in love with the stuff...not as much as Im in love with the Lutz, Englemann and Red Spruce sitting on my shelves. The Bunya just doesnt have the stiffness and ring that the other woods have.
