Re: 8 String tenor uke bracing advice

Well a progress report- it's almost done. I went with a 2mm top and braces are 6mm wide by 8mm high, three fan braces. I've just got the bridge, saddle and nut to go, plus lots of sanding then finishing. Two last questions- Does the bridge need to be bigger than usual? The practical considerations o...

Re: Blackwood guitar

Thanks for the advice fellas. I'm still a novice on (every!) the choosing wood front so I'll try to find something 1/4 sawn and light if I can.
Cheers

Blackwood guitar

Just curious- has anyone made an all blackwood body guitar? Played a very old all koa Martin and it got me thinking.....
Particularly curious to hear people's thoughts on a blackwood soundboard.

How does it sound and play now it's finished Martin? Is it easy adjusting to the multiscale? Absolutely superb work- something to aspire to!

Pair of Sassafras/Bunya tenors

Just finished this pair of tenors, both of the same billets of wood so remarkably similar in sound. Bunya tops Blackheart sassafras back and sides Vic Ash and Silky oak necks Rivergum fretboard, bridge and bindings. As usual for me, the process was not without its challenges but got there in the end...

Re: 8 String tenor uke bracing advice

Thanks Frank, That's a great starting point. I remember seeing yours in the gallery- I hope mine turns out that well! That's about what I'd decided for the braces- thought I'd start there and rely upon intuition (ha ha for a novice) once I had the top in my hands. I've been using a bunya bridge patc...

Re: 8 String tenor uke bracing advice

Thanks Allen,
Is there a preferred method? I was thinking of doing both... ie top a little thicker and heavier bracing.

8 String tenor uke bracing advice

I'm planning an 8 String tenor ukulele build and thought I'd pick the brains of the forum for a starting point on bracing. I'm using some nice stiff bunya for the top (not thicknessed yet). Can anyone give me any thoughts on top thickness, brace dimensions and bridge plates for a starting point? It w...

The one thing I haven't found an easy/quick solution for is caps for the 4.5mm rods? Anyone have any bright ideas on this front?

I'm with you there John. Couldn't bring myself to pay $6 for the stewmac ones. These guys even had a graph showing how much pressure each diameter of rod had when bent.

Building a go bar deck and radius boards on the cheap

Hi All, Just finished building a go bar deck and some radius dishes. After looking at the prices for all this kind of stuff at stewmac and on ebay I managed to do it well on the cheap instead. I thought I'd post some links up for anyone thinking of doing the same sort of thing and looking at a start...
