Re: Guitar Inlay cutting Jig

As previous suggested I organised getting the perspex templates made using a laser cutter. This involved creating CAD drawings in a free trial CAD programme called 'SketchUP'. For each template drawing I created '3D' and '2D' DXF files. As a guide to make making the CAD drawings, see pdf attachment....

The guitar build is looking great. The neck design with no heal will be an asset for playing at the body joint.

Re: Guitar Inlay cutting Jig

With the ability to go 3d, if you could some how add a pin somewhere that allows it to be 1:1 then you could use it for making and copying bridges etc, in essence then a duplicator as well Steve Yes I see there are more possibilities to add more value to the pantograph. A swappable longer side arm ...

Re: Guitar Inlay cutting Jig

by simso » Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:36 pm Is it a two to one, Be pretty good if someone local to you had a laser cutter, the you could get templates cut in perspex and keep them for your builds The pantograph has 2 size options two to one and three to one. All that is required to change the size is to t...

Re: Guitar Inlay cutting Jig

Thanks Steve for your comments
Love pantographs, it looks like its doing the job nicely too
I will now be able to achieve more consistent results in a short period of time, plus be able to create other types of design shapes that will enable more usages of the pantograph.

In between house projects I decided to make a jig for guitar inlay work. Previously, I was using my Dremel tool freehand using paper cutout patterns and this was a slow process. I was considering purchasing a small CNC machine, however, at this stage my budget is limited. As an alternate method I de...

Re: New workshop to be

The guitar building is the priority not the car! 0h well, I almost got away with it Martin until the wife caused a detour turn for me to build a new garage behind the house. The wife had no understanding what the important priority was. Oh well, the guitar builds had to sit on the side line again. W...

Re: New workshop to be

As mentioned having machines on wheels and strategically locating power points on the walls and ceiling if feasible avoids running power cables on the floor and avoids trip hazards in the workshop.

Trent great project to plan for! In regards to sound rating your workshop, acoustic insulation wool with sandwich wall and ceiling treatment helps to drop the db levels. See example section view.
