Re: What difference lacquer makes to sound

I have been using 'Behlem' Instrument gloss Nitro Lacquer from America on my Steel String guitar that I build and I am very happy with the final result, visually and sound wise. I apply: 1 x Vinyl Sealer Coats 5 x Wet Nitro Lacquer Coats 1 x thin 50:50 Nitro Lacquer Coats On some occasions an additi...

Re: New GS Guitar Build Started

I have now been able to make the bridge, grain fill the rosewood with 'Timber mate' and spray 5 wet coats. The final 6th coat (50:50) is yet to be added and then wait 3 weeks for the the Nitro Lacquer to harder before wet sanding from 600, 1200, 1500, & finally up to 2000 grade ready for the buffing...

Re: Slow neck carving

I also take my time and generally use various rasps and scraper, then finish with sand paper. I constantly check the shape and neck style I am aiming for. Spending time for me is important to achieve the desired results. If I had lots of guitar orders (and I don't), I would likely reduce time frame ...

Like the guitars. The Tele shape / Stra combination is an interesting idea. The Blue colour body also looks great.

At this stage I have only built acoustic guitars and this is my passion. However, one day I hope to build an electric guitar.

Thanks all for the good comments on the guitar build progress. It is probably not of any significance but Microsoft's SmartScreen filter doesn't like your photo site for some reason - had to turn it off to look at your PDF's/quote] I have a Mac computer and an external drive that I can switch to tha...

Re: New GS Guitar Build Started

Thanks Wayne for your good comments. Yes, I use the Dremel tool to cut the inlay cavities and I make up a clear epoxy mix with Macassar Ebony dust to glue the pearl inlay and fill up gaps that occur when cutting the cavities out freehand. I generally do the inlay work over a two three day period. Wa...

I also purchased the extension version truss rod adjuster tool for my now 47 year old FG 150, !2 string, Acoustic Maton Guitar, about 15 years ago from the Guitar Factory, Parramatta. At first I found it difficult after taking off the strap tail button and then sliding it in to align and fit into th...

What's the tape you use for the bindings?/quote] I used the Scotch 3M Green Masking tape purchased from Bunnings for binding and it does the job. I have been able to make further progress with the Steel String GS Guitar build. I have now closed the box and installed the purflings and side bindin...
