Single VS Double truss rods?
I'm building a Fender bass VI style instrument on with 32" scale and I'm wondering whether I should 1 or 2 truss rods. The neck is 3 piece vic ash. Wondering what people have done with trussrods and what perspectives you all might offer me.

2 String bass for a little guy. (first finished bass)
I'm new to building instruments, although I've been playing and messing with them for years (minus the woodwork). About three months back my 3yo son came into my office and announced he was going to play my Fender P bass. He grabbed a pick, went across the stand and pulled it out... much to my surpr...

Re: What timber to use for the body?
Yeah that's it. Got some in garage now. Picking up my new thicknesser tomorrow and it will go through that. Already cut some lengths and it's beautiful, light stuff.woodrat wrote:Hi Pete, Did they call the Malaysian stuff Dimar or Dimar Minak or something like that?

Re: Suggestions for acoustic pickups
Ehrlund Linear Mic. It's stick on contact mic that gives you the real sound of the instrument. I use one for upright bass, but they are also very good for acoustic guitar, mandolin and violin. They also work out cheaper than a good piezo and preamp.

Re: Jarrah
When you say "as nice as ebony and better than rosewood" , what exactly do you mean? Yes that's a neat bass design. I like it. Does it have much of an acoustic sound coming out of that chambered body? With a bridge that chunky I wouldn't have though a chambered body would do much. What pickups are ...

Re: What timber to use for the body?
Hi Pete Nice to see you over on this forum. Thanx Bill. Thought this might be more my speed on a few fronts. Re ply; um, yeah. no. Ply guitars weigh a tonne. Besides, even if I fill the grain well (which will take litres and litres of primer and clear) it will sink in 6 months and look crap again. ...

Re: Jarrah
Have just put a jarrah board on a fretless bass I'm building. Love it. As nice as ebony and better than rosewood imho.
In the not too distant future it'll get a tru-oil finish.

Re: What timber to use for the body?
Paint. Acrylic laquer. The appearance of the timber isn't important at all. Just the weight and stability.
