I've heard and read that mahogany gets used a fair bit, but if there is any (cheaper) alternatives that would still work well? Also has anyone made their own scraper blades before? If so could you kindly share how you...

Re: another introduction (and bonus tonewood question)

Hmm I see your point, but that was just a rough example; I know that there are much better guitars, and hand built ones are almost always gonna sound better that mass produced factory ones. Maton does use bunya, but another company, Cole clark (whose CEO is an ex-maton employee I believe) uses...

Re: New to the forum and lutherie, a few questions

Thanks for all the replies everyone. :D I have another question: What is your opinion of tap tuning/tap tone? I've read and heard that it's a sort of lutherie 'voodoo' and that it doesn't mean much in terms of the overall sound. What do you think?? is he right, or is there something particularly sig...

New to the forum and lutherie, a few questions

Hey everyone. First let me say hello, I'm new here, At the moment I'm doing a school research project on acoustic guitar building, and I have a few questions. 1. How much importance do you as a luthier place on the planning stage of making an instrument? 2. Do you ever go back and change your idea m...
