When I was trying to debug my spectrum recordings, I found two spurious peaks, one at 60 Hertz, from my fluorescent lights (US electricity) and another at about 160 Hertz, from my laptop's fan. The 60 Hertz was reduced, but not eliminated, when I turned out most of my lights. The 160 Hertz went away...
