Re: Student build log
Steve, I know Ive asked you about this a while back but can you remind me about the procedure for setting up the neck/body join. You make up the body with the neck block with mortise already cut and the neck with tenon cut and bolts set up. Do you do a rough neck rake setting at this stage and then ...

A few years ago for reasons that aren't worth discussing we imposed a 30 minute editing limit on posts. I've just changed the settings. BTW, if you want to edit your own posts you will notice three small icons in the top right corner of your post, and one of them looks like a pencil. This is the edi...

I'm an old fashioned outcast...I kitted up with bending forms and blankets but ended up going back to my trusty bending iron.
One advantage of a bending iron.....you never doze off while using it. Two pairs of shorts with holes burnt into them is proof of that!

Re: Falcate Braced Guitar No CF
LOL Rick was an interesting character.....brilliant luthier but can't say I agree with everything he said. Its my understanding that the CF on top of and below the braces is their to resist cold creep of the brace and add stiffness. I don't see how the back or the top can function to resist cold cre...

Worth reading this old thread. Trevor goes into the reasoning for running CF tow on top and under falcate braces.

Re: Maton C50 neck reset
Yeah those Savarez strings have a bit of tension when they're strung up...especially the reds. How you go about a neck reset depends on how the neck is attached to the body. If the guitar is built Spanish method then the neck is supported against the back by the spanish foot. Changing neck rake invo...

Re: pickup for falcate classical or steel string?
I just managed to squeeze the pad transducers in between the falcate braces on the two falcate builds I fitted with K and K minis. I recommend under saddle over transducers for falcate as the falcate braces can prevent ideal transducer location. Mind you I did install a K&K trinity pro recently and ...

Classical rosette after Fleta
A few pics of a rosette Ive just finished for a classical based on a 1968 Fleta. Of course you can buy these rosettes ready made up for a few bucks...but I thought Id go back to basics and make up a rosette from scratch. Time to install a ready mate rosette...about 3 hours. Time to make up a rosette...
