I've made a couple out of Cooktown Iron Wood and they have come out at 40 - 45 grams. I've been scratching my head at a way to get them down to at least the low 30 gram mark. Looks like you came up with the goods.

I got a 240V blanket from Omega in the States. Even with doubling the price due to postage and the much weaker AUD at the time (about 0.75 US), it was the cheapest option around by far. The down side was it took quite a while for them to make it and send it out. Omega was one that I emailed about a...

That's really looking good Alan, but I too would be concerned about the 1st and 6th pins. Kim, you must be pretty critical of your work, 'cause from what I can tell in the photo's, that's some really fine work. Much better than I have done by a long shot. I'd be interested in knowing how you've mana...

I should say that all I've used before has been 3 150 watt bulbs that I let heat up for 20 minutes and went on to bending from there. Or the bending iron and just have set it on to high or just less. I wouldn't say that I could have ever scorched the wood, though I did get a good sizzle. I don't hav...

Don't know, that's the whole of the email other than saying they could build to suit and would provide a quote.

What sort of temperature would I ask for? I'll get them to quote with and without.

I emailed MEI about a 240 volt blanket and they got back to me right away. Said they should be able to build me one and have asked Would you like a thermostat (if so what temperature set point would be needed) or a thermocouple wire attached? Any suggestions here? They would then give me a quote on ...

I haven't emailed them yet, but others I have just give me a bit of the "blank stare" when I ask for a 240 vo...

Watch out Hesh. If you come for a visit, you might never leave. I just had a look at your web site. Don't know if it's new 'cause I hadn't visited it before, but just wanted to let you know it looks great. I've just updated mine from just a building blog. I've put it off for ages 'cause it just take...

I built my first bender with 3 150 watt bulbs. Works good. I also bought an electric bending iron for the third guitar, 'cause the cocobolo rosewood bindings were so damn hard I broke my first set in the bending form. Much more accurate to do them on the iron, and it's really not all that hard to ge...

Welcome to the forum Grant. Good looking jig. Hope that it works out as planned. I love to see things people make without have to spend heaps of cash. As Martin says, watch what direction you are going. When I'm about to route a top I always take some white chalk and draw arrows on the top and back ...

Just a bit more repair work for me, but I did manage to make a template for a natty pickguard shape. Cheers Kim I've not installed a pick guard on a guitar, mostly 'cause I haven't been able to find one I like. I do have some pick guard sheet material, so I'd be up for a bit of a tutorial on how yo...

Me, well I was up at 3:30 am and went fishing. I'm not sure if I'll ever get accustomed to seeing overcast skies and not expecting it to be cold. It was 25 C that time of morning and absolutely glorious out. Got a couple of Mangrove Jacks and 1 massive Barra that got away. Just as well 'cause the se...

Last time I checked he was wanting $20 shipping in Oz. I've got some really nice EIR from Berry Kerr for less that that, and he's been terrific to deal with. Has gone out of his way to help me out. I can't recommend him enough.

Upgraded to OS X 10.5

For you Mac users, I just finished the upgrade to 10.5 Leopard. Was slower to install than I expected, and when I had to reboot after the install it takes a bloody long time....I mean, go out and have lunch somewhere nice...maybe a bottle of wine too. It must be compiling a new kernel. Anyway, it fi...
