Re: Cleaning out old glue from previous repair?
Thanks Nick, I've had a closer look and I think I'll just have to bite the bullet and do it manually with a little hook/chisel/brush type thing and take my time. The headstock isn't completely snapped off, it's being held on by the headplate, so looking into the crack is like staring into a little g...

Cleaning out old glue from previous repair?
Hi Guys I'm figuring one of you guys has a sneaky trick for this - I've got guitar to fix with a busted headstock which has been repaired in the past with what I'm told was titebond, and the joint has failed, (most likely due to heat than anything, it was left in a car) and I want to get as much of ...

Re: Behringer Acoustic Amp ACX1800
Amp chassis can stick really well to the enclosure covering/tolex, especially if you're taking it apart for the first time ever. Make doubly sure you've got all those screws out (sometimes the handle bolts to the chassis too but not sure on your amp) and give it a bit of a heavier hand and it should...

Re: Haven't seen this before???
Any chance it's oils leeching out of the actual bone? I've had a few bone nuts that wouldn't stay glued and it turned out the blanks weren't really prepared/degreased properly in the first place. Just a guess though.

You can also get "heavier" springs too if 5 isn't enough to counteract the string pull.

Re: Lightweight router recommendations?
I have the stewmac dremel base. It's good quality - I got it to help ease me into inlay, but it doesn't "plunge" like I thought it would (it kinda does look like it should). Doesn't fit cheapy dremels but the real deals work great and I'm sure I'll use it for other things further down the track. I'd...

Re: New Luthier Tips du Jour video - Tru Oil
Doesn't look cheap but an interesting alternative. If it works on guns it can work on guitars... http://westernfirearms.com.au/cleaning-gun-care-wood-metal-care-bluing-tru-oil-gun-stock-finish-3oz-p-2699.html That little bottle goes a long way though. Re: Paint Stripper
Just to confuse everyone further, I think I want to retract my above statements. I can't edit the post so I want to explain why I'm changing my mind. I do apologise for the threadjacking. I did a test today on a sheet of light white paper. I used diggers shellite, venti lighter fluid and diggers whi...

Thought this might be of interest to some of you; I certainly find it rather amazing. Body shape aside, take a look at those frets!

Re: Paint Stripper
I should qualify my statements, I'm using the stuff to cleaning already finished guitars and metal parts. It's great for things like gaffa tape/sticker residue and general filth (although a good old damp cloth does most of the work). My day job is setup work and most of that involves cleaning variou...

Re: Paint Stripper
I use a bit of naptha for cleaning some things, but I just get the little cans of lighter fluid (ie zippo stuff). It seems really clean (and is easy to deal with in the small tin). I've noticed Diggers brand shellite seems oily too, and smells a bit different ( ). If I can find it I'll use the...

I've used toner (ie lamp black) mixed with superglue and it works for chip repairs (good for invisible emergency fills on graphite nuts too).

Re: At last... Proper Job Nut files!
I actually started with a set of these and they cut so well when they were new, but after a few nuts worth they are dulled and have sat unused for a few years now (that's what she said). I haven't tried sharpening them though and actually sometimes I still use them for smoothing out slots haha. I ju...

Black, brown and Cinnamon bears....and the occasional grizzly, though not often as they live higher up. Bears come down in the spring and then again in the fall looking for food. If you go for a walk in the woods, is best to wear some jingle type bells, just to let them know you are coming and carr...

Re: Anyone Know anything about this guitar
Wow I've actually set one of those up a month or so ago. Switchcraft switches and output and "proper rose smelling" rosewood bridge seemed interestingly quality for what I thought was a cheaper than cheap brand. That said the bridge on the one I worked on was different to the one pictured, it didn't...

You say you want to "fix" it, but how many frets do you want in the end? Aren't the frets somewhat decorative anyway? Sorry being for the devils advocate. Bong on.

I get strings from Juststrings too. Shipping is $40 for pretty much any size order, but if you get enough packs it works out cheaper than anywhere else I've found.

Can I please request a photo or two of your homemade jobs? Sizes? I emailed maton sales about a week ago, $40 + postage for the tools... would like to try a DIY option first! I'm also tempted by this style instead of the longer type... http://www.suttonstrings.com/inventory/item/maton_truss_rod_adju...
