Re: Wood species for Falcate braces

I noticed on the 'Tasmanian Acoustic Tonewood' site that the King Billy Bracing Billets are now currently sold out. Looking for spruce bracing billets may be an alternate options. I have used Adirondack Spruce pieces cut from billets and then thickness on a drum sander to 1.7mm thickness to make the...

Re: Wood species for Falcate braces

Tasmanian Acoustic Tone Wood has bracing billets in King Billy Pine. I have been happy with the King Billy Pine billets that I have purchased from them. See link: https://www.tasmanianacoustictonewood.com.au/ On another matter, I see that 'Australian Tonewoods' from Western Australia has moved to Ta...

After long pause I have able to get back to my falcate 14th fret body joint guitar build. The top is Sitka Spruce and back Amboyna. Just started to close the box. Refer to photos. I will make a post in the 'Gallery' when completed. Wayne Falcate Top 14th BJ.jpg Back Live Bracing.jpg Closing Box.jpg

Great idea Allen. Easier to overlay the soundboard joint on the candle jig at the bench.

Re: More improvements to pantograph jig for guitar inlays

I am currently on my next SS guitar build and have started some of the inlay required for the headstock. Since providing information to the forum about my modified router pantograph I decided to make a video to demonstrate it in operation. The video is around six minutes long, refer to youtube link....

Re: Applying G&G techniques to a kit guitar

I also use EIRW for my bridges on my SS guitar builds and I am very happy with the results. IO also agree that the weight is not heavy. I have not tried alternatives such as Blackwood that would be lighter. The natural finish with oil on an EIRW bridge ties in nicely a Macassar Ebony fretboard. Wayne

Wayne, who's behind this company? I'ts not old Robert McCrae is it? I just returned home from a 5 day break today and looking forward to starting the next guitar project. However, in regards to who is behind 'Tasmanian Acoustic Tonewood', I'm not sure. I have only had contact with Bentley Cross. Wa...

Re: 0 Taper Bridge Pins

Forgot to mention that tapered slotted or unslotted pins can be purchased. There are various views around which is the best. Unslotted pins keep the string touching all of the bridge area within the pin hole. You need to file a 45 degree angle on the bridge pin to lock the string ball. Using unslott...

Re: 0 Taper Bridge Pins

Generally, there are two taper angles 3 degrees and 5 degrees. I like using bone pins with a 3 degree taper or you can use timber ebony or rosewood depending whether you want a more brighter response that bone pins have.
