Thanks Wayne, I'm convinced now the lattice is the way to go. I have finished building a OM with that bracing design sanding a finishing the guitar now. Sounds to be like you shellac flakes, granuals, beads or what ever dry form you used is old stock or it have been subjected to moisture so your brew has not dissolved correctly. If it is a milky colour that's your problem for sure.
