I hate that, other peoples sweat, beer and dead skin built up then eaten and shat out by bacteria that live in the fluff. I saw this the other day, use the things you put in the cloths dryer that suck up smells. Have not tried it but it was in the tech bit of a reputable guitar mag.

Re: intonation primer
Yeah yeah, I have a link to a conversion site and we can do it. But surely it would be better that a tutorial in the ANZLF be given in metric as that is what we use here. Put in the old measurements for sure but making me convert numbers to make sense of it is only doing half the job. It is electron...

Re: 4 DOF Model
OK, I have not had the mental fortitude to go back and start trolling through all my equations again yet. But I did check the VBA chart that John created and I was wrong. The peaks are all correct but the amplitude of the air is a little low. Again, from memory, when plugging Trevors 100Hz numbers f...

Re: 4 DOF Model
Hey, you don't have to read if it makes your brain hurt Martin. :) Jim, what do you think AII 2-38 to AII 2-43 should be? I didn't mean the derivation of Dbar, I meant to result. Trevor posted his results for 100Hz (I think) and John and I were getting the wrong sign and/or number. But as I mentione...

Re: intonation primer
Thanks John. A bunch of us have been developing techniques from Trevor and Gerard’s book which apply increasingly sophisticated maths to the problem and takes account of the properties of different brands of string which have an effect on the final sound. Using the traditional methods only the open ...

Re: 4 DOF Model
Hey guys, glad the batton has been picked up. I have been approaching the problem from the angle of defeating excels stupid treatment of small numbers. I have also discovered that the Polish version of excel is worse by several decimal places. Anyway, splitting up the equations into smaller parts be...

What Jeff said, plus scale length, distribution of wood and type. Light or heavy versions of that wood. Bridge design and material. Bridge to body attachment. String through design. Neck timber, fretboad material and frets. Nut material. So there are a few things that change the sound of an electric...

Re: installing endpin jack for K&K Pure Mini
Or... drill a hole the correct size in the middle of a piece of scrap mdf (~150x150mm), double sided tape it into position on the guitar and you have a custom drill guide. I had to do this when fitting a D-Tar end pin/pre-amp to a mates guitar. I had a 16mm forstner bit to to open up a 12mm hole wit...

I got one a while ago. Leave it on for 72 hours and it does change the tone markedly. Hard to describe but it is better, more open and colourful. Is this what happens when we play a guitar a lot? Hard for us to objectively analyse a guitar we play every day and say if it changed after 2 months. Agai...

But then I saw Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses (Knock Knock) playing an all aluminium guitar that is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Can we take it then that neither he nor you are into heavy metal music ? Bruce, you have me all wrong :) . Look at the guys cowboy hat. They are more a co...

I like that I can see a guitar and make it if I want one. It pushes me to try different things, flat tops, classicals, archtops, assorted electric guitars. Nothing has been out of range. The right wood will turn up eventually. But then I saw Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses (Knock Knock) playing an ...

Re: this on I called Pearlzilla
All the decent discussions in design on this forum over the past 12 months have used the framework based on Trevor’s 4DOF model. It has vastly improved the quality of discussion. In my view, the ANZLF is now by far the most lutherie-literate forum anywhere in the world. And we have just started. The...

Re: this on I called Pearlzilla
Given the cost of making such a guitar is inversely proportion to the price received for the guitar, they can be no more than factory curiosities as they could never recoup labour costs. That's what Martin did with these I think. Where do your T(i,i) modes fall? Saying it sounds killer just does not...

Hey Taff, there is another one of your guitars in the shop in Bungendore. Like this one but with a very open pointy cutaway. That's the second guitar of your's that's been through the shop in 6 months. Cool

Here's a good suggestion, Get one of the excellent builders from NZ to make it for you. Failing that someone here in Oz. Allen make a few ukes. If your US builder does not know about this stuff to point of you having to ask us why not get an authentic antipodean uke made. Go on, give us a go....

I recon CT has the jump on Jet lately. Certainly on the distribution side of things but also introducing new models. Apart from the oscillating drum sander from Jet (which is no longer listed so my guess is it had design problems) CT are introducing better technology. Their jointers and thicknessers...

Well CT closed the next to useless Canberra store and orders from Qld are now very fast and reliable. It will be very interesting to see how the 2 brands go head to head.

Got the latest Carbatec catalogue and its got a jet bandsaw on the front because CT are now the sole distributor of Jet machines here and in NZ. Giving Martin's love for CT I thought he would be thrilled to know they now handle jet. And they have prices which has always pissed me off with Jet becaus...

Re: Plastic Binding Gaps
I'm just about to put plastic binding on two of those CS336's I made so I'll soon find out but.... A little plane worked good last time and is less likely to dig in than a scaper on the top. Scraper on the sides.
