Re: Glueing on the Bridge

Where are you located Max?
There may be someone near you with a vacuum setup.
It's what I use, a Dust collector would not generate enough Vacuum, it's high flow but low negative pressure

Re: best glue for nut?¿?

And in most cases it is preferable to just glue the nut to the end of the fretboard. That way it is easy to remove with a tap, without pulling up fibres from the underside,

Re: Braces with adjustable Youngs Modulus?

The title is a little misleading Adjusting the stiffness of a brace is one thing, but Young's modulus is a material property which is not readily changed. It gets a bit confusing sometimes when we use the term stiffness in a generic way for Youngs modulus, crossectional stiffness (EI), and also for ...

Not Being Pedantic about it
I have a roll of Wax proofed paper that I use to prevent glue sticking, I would hate to see that used in a bending sandwich through lack of clarity.

Re: Side bending with Fox bender

Wax paper? why I would not want wax and hot timber together due to contamination. Read it again, it says wax PROOF paper. You know, cooking paper that cooks use so stuff doesn't stick? Bought from the supermarket. It's a tip I was given from someone who bends a lot more sides than I ever do and it ...

[quote="demonxOne more piece of advice is to add aluminium foil into your sandwich. So either side of your timber you'll have wax proof paper (supermarket stuff), al foil, heat blanket on top and then steel. Good luck![/quote] Wax paper? why I would not want wax and hot timber together due to contam...

Re: Side bending with Fox bender

Yes Just under twice the stiffness 2.5 to 2.0. I can't help you with temperatures I just know what works for me with my setup. I bend at 2.0, use veneer softer, Turn my blanket up full, start bending after 60 seconds and have the bending complete within the next 60 seconds. I turn it off, let it coo...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Frank. You seem to have a few misconceptions about Trevor's method. A few examples -Free plate testing is specifically NOT a feature of it. The test that matters is when fully strung up. Free plate tuning is Alan Carruth's baby. -Tap testing on the strung up bridge does actually replicate the transv...

Looking good, I like how you have taken all the practical factors into account.
How are you fretting the string, do you have a standardised force?
How are you measuring the small nut and saddle compensation values?
cheers

Diggers "white spirit" is a different product to their Shellite, more akin to dry cleaning fluid.
Probably ok for this application but may not be finish safe on lacquer/shellac like the shellite/naptha

The mould only grows in the pot because it does not fully dry out, I have never found it to be an issue in situ.
Mix as needed is how I approach it too.

Re: Buckled side

First check how much inwards bow you have with a straight edge and feeler guage.
If it's under 1/2 a mm and you have 2mm sides you can safely level it since the material removed will mostly be over the top of the linings.

I agree with curly.
The bandsaw blade will not follow the warped curvature of the existing board face, so you might as well surface it, having first broken the boards down into appropriate lengths and widths to minimize wastage.

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

There are no free lunches with this arrangement. Whilst the bridge itself is free from rotational forces, the "string end receiving article" will be applying significant rotational forces to the area behind the bridge, the bridge will have significant downforce and will also be unable to transmit th...

Re: Falcate pattern without CF?

No real tension, it won't follow the curve, you just sort of pad it into position with a small fairly dry stiff brush.
It soaks up the resin which prevents any "buckling of the fibres" once set.
