Re: Costly mistake

Thanks, guys. I tried to use the close up setting on the camera and evidently I needed a tripod.
They looked better in the smaller format I was viewing but they are way bad here.

Re: #12 OM

Thanks one and all. Kim, I have a matching pair of parlors to make for my granddaughters and then I WILL be finished with family. It's been expensive giving my first 12 away (14 with the parlors), but I've done it for the challenge and the learning experience. I do feel much more confident now in bu...

My first BANJO !!!!

Well, for the past 4 months or so I've been secretly building this banjo. It is for me and I have no plans to build another as I already own a great Gibson Mastertone. If this one continues to improve in sound quality, I might just sell the Mastertone. Much more difficult than folks might think. I m...

Thanks, Bob. To my taste, bloodwood makes a perfect trim material for blackwood. It looks wonderful on curly oak, too.

#12 OM

I finished this a couple of months ago but didn't photograph until today. The pics aren't great, but that's my style. This is an OM made from Tasmanian blackwood with bloodwood trim. The top is adi. Sweet, sweet, sweet little guitar. This is for my 2nd grandson. Schaller tuners, tru-oil finish. Ron

FOR LILLIAN

OK, Lillian, I finally got around to taking some photos of the music boxes I made for my granddaughters. The pics are pretty bad. The first one is walnut and quilted maple, though the figure isn't done justice by the photos. The second box is bubinga and the small cylindrical box goes with the bubin...

Re: Timber advice

If it was mine, I would cut that center out then glue the two remaining pieces together. I think that would make it pretty stable and as close to quarter sawn as you can get.

Welcome Ian. You're starting a habit that will be very difficult to break. My background is sort of like yours: I've built furniture and cabinets for years, and have beat on my guitar for many years. So, looking for a challenge, I decided to build a guitar and combine my two main interests. This is ...
