Glad you guys like the hairdo! Actually that is not hair, you all know lead guitarist have really big heads  Bob, no I wasn't familiar with Robert Gordon. I like the playing though. I got into this type of music through Stray Cats in the 80's, and that lead to Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran Duane ...

Good idea for a competition, Steve. Bob, congrats on your victory! Hey, why don't you post that picture? I have played a bit of that kind of music too, and I make no excuses so here's a shot! http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i100/gitarian/stigarntolf.jpg Yup, I'm "Dusty" (also a bit rusty these day...

Arnt that was very diplomatic of you to crop out of the pic the banjo player that you are aiming at...... :D Hey, I'm a blue grass fan, I like banjos! ('Like' is perhaps a stretch, tolerate. Have come to terms with. :dri) No, that was most likely a Swedish tourist. You can never be to sure, they mi...

I have always built 'stuff', one old passion is traditional bows and arrows. Here I am shooting a sitka spruce arrow with an ash / birch long bow I built last year. The picture was taken around midnight; during summer it never gets dark up here in the land of the midnight sun... http://i70.photobuck...

My other issue is the DC, but Im sure the tip's recycling centre will have a plethora of old vacumn cleaners that can be modified.

Here's mine. Pretty much identical to Ron's , except the drum is O=150 mm and I use a 3 phase motor. I also use the velcro backed paper, and I hook the thing up to my 2 HP DC with a 100 mm hose. Accuracy and dust collection is fine, but the armstrong feed method gets old, so I'm planning on upgradin...

I would like to share a sheepshead BBQ and a beer with you sometime. It would be my pleasure, you know you have a standing invitation, Kim! You guys don’t know this, but thanks to Kim I have a nice selection of Aussie timber samples with little notes on each one saying what they are… We won't a...

I think the bracing looks fine, although personally I'm more of a 'Martin sound' guy so I use a variant of the slanted tone bar system. I have read that Larrivee (who now uses a different symetrical system) at one point tried a 'open' fan bracing behind the X, much like this, but he abandoned it in ...

I have been a member of MIMF for 8 years; I read it almost daily and occasionally still post too. Sure, the atmosphere is not as jovial as most equivalent sites, and I hate to see the way some members have gotten treated over the years, but I think most members and staff members over there are quite...

Here are a couple of snap shots. The drum on mine is 150mm x (approximately) 700mm, and have a 1,1 kW 3 phase motor on it. I usually use 80 grit paper on it and tape the ends with duct tape. Two words: dust collection! Don't build one until you have a decent DC, this thing kicks up a ton of dust. It...

I built one pretty much identical to Ron's. I think we even use the same paper (velcro backed 6" Klingspor). It works, if it is set up right you can get precision to 0.1 mm over the width of a guitar soundboard. However, the "armstrong" power feed method gets old if you have a lot of sanding to do. ...

I've heard of some people putting their guitars in front of a stereo speaker and blasting Bob Marley in to them to try and get the same effect. My feeling is that it'll open up quicker if you simply play the thing - lots and hard. Here is an interesting article written by ANZLF member Rick Turner; ...

Brown tape form Stewmac or figerglass reinforced packing tape if I need more pressure. I use a hair dryer to gently warm this tape before removing it, as it makes it less sticky and reduces the chance for pulling up splinters on the soundboard (if it does pull up splinters, I take is as the soundboa...

Maybe this whole "nation" gig has got out of hand and we need to make many smaller autonomous regions. No bigger than say 5 million people. Yeah, we are about 4,7 million people, it seems about right! I took some statistics about my beloved country from Wiki, here you go: Norway is currently the se...
